Things are bad, very bad.
I don’t normally watch a lot of Scottish football, but when a bet is on the line, I’ll watch anything.

Things started off really well, with James Tavernier scoring in the 23rd minute and with a penalty being awarded to Rangers in the 27th. Great start, game done, move on to the next leg of the ACCA, right? Wrong.
Since I'd backed Rangers, thinking "surely they can’t keep up this abysmal form", Tavernier, clearly, had other ideas. Normally solid from the spot, he must have somehow sensed the fact that I had backed them on this occasion so, obviously, he missed. VAR then ruled out a Rangers goal in the 45th (which, to be fair, was the right call, so I'll move on).
As if written in the stars, Livingston equalised in the 68th minute. However, I still had hope!
That was, until the Sky cameras cut to the Rangers bench, where Russell Martin looked as lost as my neighbour’s cat (missing for three months now).
Still, I clung to a shred of belief. However, that was further stretched thin soon after. What does Professor Martin do when chasing a win? Brings on Youssef Chermiti. The same Chermiti whose last strike came back in 2023.
However, doubt Football Park’s tips at your own peril: we had a 2-1 away win predicted and that’s exactly what we got. Thanks, Max Aarons, you gorgeous flop of a right-back.
But this isn’t really a match report (well... maybe a little, because they nearly killed my 11/1 ACCA). It’s about the Rangers fans. The limbs when Aarons scored the winner were honestly amazing to watch - but they’d been brilliant from the very first whistle.
They’re up there with the very best in Europe. With everything they’ve been through, with all the rubbish they’ve had to watch, they still carried their team the whole way. They deserve so much better than this squad and far better, let's be honest, than the manager they have.
But I’m genuinely glad they got the late goal - those fans earned it. They remain incredible ambassadors for such a huge club. Week after week, through everything, they show what class looks like.
Honestly, Rangers as a team don’t deserve fans this good.
One thing is for certain, the management of the club and recruitment needs to improve. Signing players like Chermiti, Aasgaard and Rothwell - all names who are just not good enough to be Rangers players - really makes you question the management of the club.

I’m sure they are ruing not taking the chance to hire Derek McInnes. He knows the league, he had two great spells with Kilmarnock and Aberdeen and his Hearts team is sitting nicely at the top of the league with no losses. He also understood the beast that is Rangers and wasn’t hellbent on playing a style of football at the cost of ‘winning’.
