The Carabao Cup, also known as the League Cup by some as well as former names under different sponsors, is the first domestic cup competition that can be competed for in English football. It compiles every single club who play from the fourth division in League Two all the way up into the Premier League in a knockout tournament to eventually decide the winner. Expect upsets throughout!
92 different teams enter, and only one will remain. All the 92 clubs that make up each of England’s professional tiers (tiers 5 and below are classed as “non-league” clubs) will face off in round-by-round knockout fixtures to determine the eventual winner, who is crowned after a cup final match at Wembley Stadium in London.
The 25/26 Carabao Cup’s first round concluded on the 12th of August 2025. Lower-level Premier League clubs entered the competition at round two, which took place on the 26th of August. Round three, featuring every remaining club and any Premier League clubs waiting to enter, took place on the 16th of September. Round 4 will take place on the 28th of October, with dates still unconfirmed for the rest of the tournament.
Carabao Cup games are broadcast through many different forums. Choice fixtures are normally available to watch on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Main Event, whilst livestreaming services can often be found through paid subscriptions to club media channels for games that are not on live TV, and do not take place on Saturday’s at 3pm.
Liverpool have won the Carabao Cup on the most occasions, winning the competition nine times. The current title holders are Newcastle United, who won the 2024/25 instalment of the competition.
