The final day of the Premier League season sees the Premier League champions host the newly crowned FA Cup holders, as Liverpool host Crystal Palace in a game that is inconsequential for both teams.
Obviously, Liverpool have wrapped up the title, and will already have one eye on the Club World Cup starting in June, while Palace can’t drop any lower than their current 12th place. However, they could rise as high as ninth if they pick up a surprise win, and will want to finish the campaign on yet another high, reiterating the good work Oliver Glasner has done since arriving at the Eagles.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
This game will be broadcasted on TNT Sports 1, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00 on Sunday.
Liverpool Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Alisson (GK); Andrew Robertson, Jarell Quansah, Ibrahima Konate, Conor Bradley; Dominic Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo; Luiz Diaz, Harvey Elliot, Mo Salah; Darwin Nunez.
Thank goodness Liverpool wrapped up the Premier League when they did - their form in recent weeks has been nowhere near the level required to do so had the title race been closer. While they have been scoring, Arne Slot’s team have forgotten how to defend, and have conceded eight in their last three games.
Albeit, Slot is rotating his side, including playing back options such as Quansah, Tsimikas and Bradley across the backline - but football fans know from experience that these players are more than good enough to pull off results against Chelsea and Brighton.
The reds appear to have already set their sights on next season - and with nothing more to play for this campaign, you can see why. This last game is an opportunity to give minutes to rotation options, up the value of potential sales, and perhaps wave Trent Alexander-Arnold farewell.
Crystal Palace Predicted Lineup (3-4-2-1): Dean Henderson (GK); Joel Ward, Maxence Lacroix, Chris Richards; Ben Chilwell, Jefferson Lerma, Will Hughes, Daniel Munoz; Ebere Eze, Daichi Kamada; Jean-Philippe Mateta.
After the events at Wembley a week ago, many expected Palace to have a celebration hangover when they played Wolves just three days later. However, Glasner’s side surprised everyone by coming out firing, and eventually waltzing to a commanding 4-2 win.
Ebere Eze scored again, once again underlining his importance to the Eagles - he has now notched 14 goals and 12 more assists across all competitions this season, including eight of each in the Premier League, and he has caught fire since the turn of the year.
With his name carved into Palace history, and the club set to enter Europe for the first time ever next season, This game holds no importance whatsoever for Palace, with no risk or reward attached to the game - however, with Liverpool in such poor form of late, they will see an opportunity, and Glasner will start a strong side at Anfield.
Recent Meetings:
Liverpool will be hungry to end their period of poor form, especially because this, their final game of the season, will be played in front of their home fans. They will want to send the Kop home on a high note, and we think they will win here. However, with Palace’s recent form taken into account, there will be goals.
That is why our experts have decided that the best tip for this game is Liverpool to win combined with over 3.5 goals. Odds of 2.48 on Highbet means that a £10 bet returns winnings of almost £25.
Liverpool 3-2 Crystal Palace
Both sides will want to end the season with a bang, and Palace will look to target Liverpool’s recent defensive shakiness. However, the Kop will sing the home side to a final day victory.
