The Portuguese first division is well underway, as we enter the second round of matches of the 2025/26 season. On Monday, Porto take a short trip north to Barcelos to take on Gil Vicente on what could provide an entertaining game of football.
Key Betting Tip: Porto to Win 1.42 odds on Kwiff represents excellent value based on the tip provided by our team of in-house tipsters.
Gil Vicente Predicted XI: Andrew; Ghislain Konan, Marvin Gilbert, Jonathan Buatu, Hevertton Santos; Ze Ferreira, Facundo Caseres; Martin Fernandez, Luis Esteves, Sergio Bermejo; Pablo.
Porto Predicted XI: Diogo Coasta; Martim Fernandes, Jan Bednarek, Nehuén Perez, Alberto Costa; Alan Varela; Borja Sainz, Gabriel Veiga, Stephen Eustaquio, Pepe; Samu Aghehowa.
Vicente coach César Peixoto will remain with a full-strength squad for this fixture, and may only make one change from their wain at Nacional. In midfield the young Mohammed Bamba could make way for Ferreira.
Francesco Farioli’s side come into this match off the back of a thrilling 3-0 win over Vitoria Guimaraes, so will go greatly unchanged. Canadian midfielder Eustaquio could come in for Danish talent Victor Froholdt to bring in some experience for their first away trip of the campaign.
Galos sit fifth in the table at the moment, following their opening day victory. Vicente have been rather busy this summer on, bringing in Esteves, Pablo, Daniel Figueria, Gustavo Varela, Konan, Antonio Espigares, Agustin Moreira, Santos, and Fernandez.
As for the Dragões, they are second following their 3-0 thumping of Vitoria. Neither side conceded a goal either in the last match. Porto improved substantially over the summer too, as they welcomed Pérez, Veiga, Andorinha, Dominik Prpic, Sainz, Froholdt, Costa, Bednarek, and Luuk de Jong.
There have been some very spicy encounters in recent years, but there is no hiding that there is one team who win a majority of the time. Porto’s 18 wins in their 26 meetings shows that Gil Vicente certainly have their work cut out for them.
Recent Head-to-Head Results:
Their last meeting came back in January, where Vicente came out on top in a very eventful match. 3-1 was the score, with Vicente sealing the deal with a penalty in injury time. This match was overshadowed by Porto’s two dismissals, however, there is no taking away from Vicente who deserved the victory.
Gil Vicente Last 5 Matches:
Vicente only played one friendly over the summer, as they drew 1-1 with Keith Andrews’ Brentford. They won their opener 2-0 over Nacional, with Pablo and Esteves’ first-half goals proving enough for the three points.
Porto Last 5 Matches:
It was a poor Club World Cup in the summer, with Porto going winless. They did, however, win both of their friendly matches as well as a dominant win over Vitoria in their season opener. Pepe scored early on, with Aghehowa scoring one in each half to secure a comfortable victory.
Our advanced algorithm analyses over 200 data points to generate these predictions with confidence in a Porto victory. The model factors in current form, head-to-head records, player availability, and tactical matchups. Porto beat a Vitoria side who finished just outside the European places last season very comfortably. They now face a team who is most certainly, on paper, much weaker.
Football Park’s Best Bet: Porto to Win @ 1.42 - Our team of in-house betting tipsters have predicted a huge Dragões win in this fixture. Recent form suggest confidence in an away victory.
Andrew (Gil Vicente): The Brazilian shot-stopper earned the Player of the Match award last weekend, and he will need to replicate his three saves at a bare minimum if he is to stop this star-studded away attacking unit. His distribution for setting up attacks was also good in the opener, as he played seven accurate long balls.
Samuel Aghehowa (Porto): Before his move to northern Portugal, Aghehowa was wanted by many of Europe’s top teams. He has seemed to have made the right decision, however, scoring 25 goals in his 42-game debut season. He has started this one much the same, bagging two in just one.
Referee: Ricardo Baixinho. A craftsman who is not afraid to use his tools. During his 170 matches officiated so far, the Portuguese referee hands out an average of 4.9 yellow cards per match.
Stadium Information: Located in northern Portugal, Barcelos, the Estádio Cidade de Barcelos can hold up to just over 12,000 supporters.
