FC Zurich vs Sion Predictions, Lineups and Betting Tips

Match Details: July 25th, 2025 | Stadion Letzigrund, Zurich | Swiss Super League

Friday welcomes the first kick of the ball in the 2025/26 Swiss Super League season, as FC Zurich welcome Sion to the Stadion Letzigrund. Of their four meetings last season, both won two.

They also both finished in the relegation group, once the table had been split between title and demotion rivals. While they both secured safety relatively comfortably, both will be keen to make a strong start to the season to settle any early nerves.

Key Betting Tip: FC Zurich to Win at odds of 1.77 respresent excellent odds for the tip provided by our in-house tipsters.

FC Zurich vs Sion Predicted Lineups

FC Zurich Predicted XI (4-3-3): Yanick Brecher (GK); Rodrigo Conceicao, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Mariano Gomez, Lindrit Kamberi; Bledian Krasniqi, Nelson Palacio, Steven Zuber; Emmanuel Umeh, Samuel Ballet, Jahnoah Markelo.

Bringing in some notable improvements over the summer on loan deals, it seems Zurich have upward progress in mind. While they cannot afford permanent transfers for these targets, loan deals provide a clever way of acquiring their qualities for a season, in turn earning them more money to spend the next campaign.

Salt Lake City’s Nelson Palacio will sit at the base of midfield break up play, while Matthias Phaeton from CSKA Sofia will cut in from the left, using his trickery and pace to create opportunities for Samuel Ballet in the box.

Sion Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Timothy Fayulu (GK); Federico Barba, Gora Diouf, Kreshnik Hajrizi, Numa Lavanchy; Noe Sow, Ali Kabacalman; Benjamin Kololli, Anton Miranchuk, Ilyas Chouaref; Mouhcine Bouriga.

With no new major signings to speak of, Sion’s starting eleven is expected to look very similar to the one that ended last season. They have done well to keep hold of top scorer Kololliver the summer despite interest from elsewhere, and will be confident at least that their squad has enough to avoid relegation once again.

However, signings are required in what is left of the transfer window if they are to improve and progress. Avoiding relegation may be one thing, but it is certainly not sustainable, and if they fail to bring in new blood, Sion will find that out the hard way.

  • Feb 2025: Sion 2-1 FC Zurich.
  • Oct 2024: Sion 0-2 FC Zurich.
  • Sept 2024: FC Zurich 1-0 Sion.
  • Apr 2024: FC Zurich 2-2 Sion.

FC Zurich and Sion Recent Match Analysis

FC Zurich Last Five Matches:

  • Yverdon 3-2 FC Zurich (Super League Relegation Group)
  • St. Gallen 3-2 FC Zurich (Super League Relegation Group)
  • FC Zurich 4-1 Winterthur (Super League Relegation Group)
  • FC Zurich 3-0 Grasshopper (Super League Relegation Group)
  • Sion 2-1 FC Zurich (Super League Relegation Group)

They may have lost three of their last five matches, but with all of these coming at the end of last season and in the relegation group, Zurich had already virtually secured safety by virtue of their big points difference to the relegation rivals.

Despite these three defeats, they finished 14 points clear of the relegation play-off place, an extremely comfortable margin. In fact, they can be very unfortunate not to have qualified for the Championship group - they even finished with more point than Luzern, who finished last amongst the top six.

Sion Last Five Matches:

  • Winterthur 2-1 Sion (Super League Relegation Group)
  • Sion 2-1 Grasshopper (Super League Relegation Group)
  • Sion 1-1 St. Gallen (Super League Relegation Group)
  • Yverdon 1-1 Sion (Super League Relegation Group)
  • Sion 2-1 FC Zurich (Super League Relegation Group)

Sion’s strong end to the season, which saw them pick up eight points from the last 15 available, was invaluable to maintaining their status as a top flight side, as for much of the season, they sat rock bottom, and looked unlikely to move.

If they can bring that momentum into the new season, then they could well steer clear of a similar predicament this season, but in truth, they need to make further moves in the transfer window to make that happen.

FC Zurich vs Sion Betting Tip

Football Park’s Best Bet: FC Zurich to Win - After some smart signings were brought in over the summer, FC Zurich clearly have their focus set on avoiding a relegation battle this season. Though their new players will take some time to gel, their squad has more than enough quality to dispatch of Sion here.

Players to Watch: FC Zurich vs Sion

Steven Zuber (FC Zurich): Zurich’s midfield general’s primary role is in the centre of the park, but the Swiss international has also been known to ably perform at attacking midfielder and even as a striker, emphasising his adaptability and overall quality. Netting eight goals and assisting three goals, it was the second most productive season of his career, and the 33-year-old only seems to be getting better with age.

Benjamin Kololli (Sion): Top scorer for Sion last season, Kosovo international Kololli showed his wealth of experience by always being in the right place at the right time. A Swiss Super League veteran, the 33-year-old has played for five top flight clubs in the country, and his return to Sion was something of a fairytale, having started out there as a teenager. They will be hoping their now mature youth product can deliver once again this season.

Stadium Details: FC Zurich’s home ground, the Stadion Letzigrund is capable of holding an impressive 50 ‘000 fans, and was built in to aid Switzerland in hosting the 2008 European Championships. It boasts modern facilities and latest technology, but thanks to the Women's Euro’s using the pitch over the course of the summer, the state of the pitch could be poorer than expected.
