Turkey’s top flight is known for its open, and often very attacking football - the division tends to sign formerly elite attackers from Europe’s top five leagues, such as Daniel Sturridge, Dries Mertens and Didier Drogba who over the years, have influenced the way football is played in the country. More goals mean that more markets are considered viable for a bet, particularly markets such as over/under 3.5 goals.
Clubs in Turkey are less heavily influenced by tactics, and often play a game with a loose approach that can change when necessary - while this makes for exciting football, it makes games unpredictable, and momentum in any given game can swing wildly.
Turkish derby games are of particular importance - these games, such as Galatasaray vs Fenerbahce and Besiktas against both of these sides almost guarantee drama - goals, cards and controversy occur more often than not, meaning that betting on cards, fouls and plenty of goals can hold serious value.
The Turkish Super Lig is made up of 18 teams, who play each other twice across the season, in one home and one away fixture - in total, each side plays 34 games. The top three spots in the table present the opportunity to bag European football for the following season.
The league champions, who last year were Istanbul based Galatasaray, automatically qualify for the UEFA Champions League league phase, while second place is forced to go through the preliminary Champions League qualification rounds in order to secure their status in the competitions' main stage. Third place is sent into the Europa League qualification rounds.
In terms of relegation, the bottom three teams will be relegated to the second tier at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Like many leagues across Europe, the Turkish Super Lig takes place from mid-August to late May, with the competition put on hold during the international breaks that take place in September, October, November and March.
No UK channels show Turkish Super Lig football, but other international broadcasters do - Turkish fans watch the games on beIN Sports, while USA and Canada-based viewers are able to view these games through platforms such as Fanatiz and Fubo.
The Super Lig title has largely been shared between Turkey’s three dominant sides - Fenerbahce hold a narrow lead in the overall title standings, with 28 to their name, while Galatasaray sit just two behind on 26. Besiktas round out the top three with 21. Trabzonspor boast the most title wins outside the big three, with seven.
