Scottish second tier action returns this Tuesday as table topper Falkirk travel south to Lanarkshire to face bottom club Airdrieonians. Two teams facing extremely different seasons, 37 points separate them with Falkirk winning four times the amount of league games that Airdrieonians have with ten games of the season left to play.
Airdrieonians’ form has improved drastically since the end of January to the point where they have the fourth best record in the division over the last four games (3W 2D 3L). However, it looks to be too little too late with the club realistically needing five wins from their last 10 games to survive.
Falkirk have consistently been up there in the form table over the course of this season, which has left the newly promoted side at the top. The club has three wins, four draws and one loss in their last eight and have lost twice in their last eight away from home specifically.
Predicted Line Up: Nicky Hogarth, Keelan Adams, Coll Donaldson, Liam Henderson, Leon McCann, Brad Spencer, Dylan Tait, Ethan Ross, Scott Arfield, Calvin Miller, Barney Stewart
Scott Arfield is the only option as Falkirk’s player to watch, the midfielder scored five goals in his opening three games since rejoining his boyhood club in February. Playing in attacking midfield, Arfield was the perfect signing to boost Falkirk’s promotion chances and could be on the scoresheet again this Wednesday.
Predicted Line Up: Kieran Wright, Dylan MacDonald, Samuel Graham, Alex Bannon, Lewis Strapp, Gavin Gallagher, Dean McMaster, Adam Frizzell, Chris Mochrie, Lewis McGrattan, Ben Wilson
Despite his teams poor form Ben Wilson has been on fire in his last six league games, scoring six goals in that time period. His upturn in form has coincided with Airdrieonians, who since January 25th have picked up 11 of their 17 points, even if Airdrie lose, Wilson is still one to watch.
In their last 27 meetings, Falkirk have won 11, Airdrieonians have won 10 and there have been six draws. Their previous two meetings this season have both ended in 2-0 wins to Falkirk Both teams have a recent history battling it out in the third tier, but have recently been promoted to the Championship in 2023 and 2024 respectively, Falkirk are set to achieve back-to-back promotions to the top flight if they can keep up their form. Their last five meetings are as follows:
Airdrieonians' uptick in form means that they will bring a game to Falkirk especially at home, however they are facing the best side in the league and that cannot be overlooked. For this reason, our betting experts say Falkirk to Win is the best value tip for this game. With odds at 4/9, a bet of £10 could see a potential return of up to £14.40.
