It’s the Quarter Final stage of the League Cup this week, and Arsenal host Crystal Palace. Both sides want to forget about recent league form and focus on securing a place in the Semi Finals of this competition, but by the end of the week, there will be just four teams left in the competition.
Arsenal’s league form as of late hasn’t been too good, drawing against Fulham and Everton in their last two matches. They haven’t scored from open play in the Premier League since they beat West Ham at the end of November.
Crystal Palace have recently been able to put distance between themselves and the relegation places, having lost just once since registering their first league win of the season over Tottenham back at the end of October.
Arsenal Predicted Lineup - David Raya; Jurrien Timber, Jakub Kiwior, William Saliba, Thomas Partey; Declan Rice, Jorginho, Martin Odegaard; Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka
I will be surprised if Arsenal don’t go for a strong line up here, even though they have a lot of fixtures to contend with. Their recent run of form has meant that their chances of winning the league are looking slimmer and slimmer by the week, so if Mikel Arteta wants to win a trophy, this could be the only way to do so this season.
Bukayo Saka has had an impressive output this season, but Martin Odegaard’s injury earlier in the season has shown how crucial he is to the way the Gunners play. He only has one goal to his name this term, but he could notch another one here.
Crystal Palace Predicted Lineup - Matthew Turner; Marc Guehi, Maxence Lacroix, Trevoh Chalobah; Tyrick Mitchell, Cheick Doucoure, Jefferson Lerma, Daniel Munoz; Eberechi Eze, Daichi Kamada; Jean-Philippe Mateta
Palace won their last game against Brighton away from home in an impressive display, so the momentum is with them coming into this game. Like Arsenal, I don’t see Oliver Glazner going any less than full strength here, as this is a real opportunity to get into the final four.
Marc Guehi has been impressive this season, both in defence and up top, contributing to the attacking output of a side that sometimes struggles to score goals. Eberechi Eze is also another player who is a threat in the attack, although he hasn’t been at his best so far this season.
Being the bigger and more successful team, historically speaking, it comes as no surprise that Arsenal have the better of the results of the two teams. There was a period between 2018 and 2021 where Arsenal failed to win, but most of the results were draws.
20th Jan 2024 - Arsenal 5-0 Crystal Palace - Premier League
21st Aug 2023 - Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal - Premier League
19th Mar 2023 - Arsenal 4-1 Crystal Palace - Premier League
5th Aug 2022 - Crystal Palace 0-2 Arsenal - Premier League
4th Apr 2022 - Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal - Premier League
Arsenal will want to score early to take all pressure off themselves, however Crystal Palace are quite good at defending set pieces, so that could be difficult for them. I think the outcome of this game is totally reliant on how strong both teams go but ultimately Arsenal have the better players, so they should win.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Arsenal to Win + Over 1.5 Goals. Odds of 8/11 on Parimatch means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £17.27.
(odds subject to change)
