As the festive period approaches and the games come thick and fast, Arsenal host Everton as they try to claw back ground on a Liverpool side that look unstoppable. Everton have had a long break since their last match, as their game against Liverpool was postponed last weekend.
Arsenal beat Monaco in midweek to put them in a good position to finish inside the top eight of the Champions League league phase. Last weekend was a slightly different story, as they drew 1-1 away to Fulham. In the league, Arsenal’s last three goals have all come from corners.
Everton haven’t played since the 4th December, when they beat Wolves 4-0 at home. Their match against Liverpool at the weekend was postponed due to bad weather, meaning that they have a full week more than Arsenal to prepare for this game.
Arsenal Predicted Lineup - David Raya; Jurrien Timber, Jakub Kiwior, William Saliba, Thomas Partey; Declan Rice, Jorginho, Martin Odegaard; Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka
Arsenal put out quite a strong team in midweek, so they might decide to rest a few players in this game, however considering how important every game is right now for the Gunners, that is unlikely. They are still missing Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Keiran Tierney from the defence, so Thomas Partey is likely to fill in at right back.
Bukayo Saka got a brace in midweek so he is in fine form coming into this game. Not only does he score goals, but his deliveries from set pieces are some of the best in the league, which is highlighted by his number of assists this season.
Everton Predicted Lineup - Jordan Pickford; Vitalii Mykolenko, Jarrad Branthwaite, James Tarkowski, Ashley Young; Orel Mangala, Idrissa Gueye; Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Iliman Ndiaye; Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Everton’s last match was a convincing victory over Wolves, but their season has been far from replicating that win. They have only won three matches in 14 games, losing to the likes of Southampton and Bournemouth.
Iliman Ndiaye has been good at times this season, but has only managed two goals. He is one of Everton’s best attacking outlets, but I think he will struggle to get on the ball in the Arsenal half this weekend.
These two sides have played against each other so many times throughout history and it is perhaps unsurprising that Arsenal have the better record between the two. Everton have lost 112 meetings between the two, winning just 65.
19th May 2024 - Arsenal 2-1 Everton - Premier League
17th Sep 2023 - Everton 0-1 Arsenal - Premier League
1st Mar 2023 - Arsenal 4-0 Everton - Premier League
4th Feb 2023 - Everton 1-0 Arsenal - Premier League
22nd May 2022 - Arsenal 5-1 Everton - Premier League
Arsenal are the better team and are in better form than Everton, there’s no doubt about that. Given Arsenal’s defensive record and Everton’s goal scoring record, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Gunners managed to keep the Toffees out for the full 90 minutes, and also don’t be shocked if we see a corner scored in this game.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Arsenal to Win + Over 2.5 Goals. Odds of 33/40 on Parimatch means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £18.25.
(odds subject to change)
Arsenal 3-0 Everton
