The pressure on Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is at an all time high and now on Sunday 6th October 2024 his squad travel to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa in what is surely a must win game. However it won’t come easily with Unai Emery’s team looking to build on their exceptional start to the campaign.
This has the possibility to be the last time we see Erik Ten Hag in the dugout for Manchester United. A win is desperately needed. However against Aston Villa who are flying at the moment this will be no easy test.
Both teams are often involved in high scoring games and with so much on the line here this could be a very entertaining fixture.
Aston Villa Predicted Lineup - Emiliano Martínez; Lucas Digne, Pau Torres, Diego Carlos, Ezri Konsa; Youri Tielemans, Amadou Onana; Jacob Ramsey, Morgan Rogers, Leon Bailey; Ollie Watkins
Aston Villa are on fire right now. They currently sit in fifth place in the league on 13 points. Just two points off top spot Liverpool. This could be a massive opportunity to keep the pressure on the top of the table.
Not only this but they have scored the joint third most goals in the division this season with twelve goals to their name. Their only issue is that they have conceded nine goals - this more than any team in the top half of the table.
A win against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League will be massive for their confidence coming into this game. Could they claim yet another victory.
Manchester United Predicted Lineup - Andre Onana; Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Noussair Mazraoui, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes; Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho
Manchester United have struggled this season so far. They are currently 13th in the table and very far from their best. Having claimed seven points from six games they will be desperate for a victory in this game. As it stands, United haven’t picked up a league victory since their 3-0 victory over Southampton.
Their inability to finish chances has cost them. They have only scored five goals in the league so far this season - this the joint second least in the division. Conceding eight goals along the way is also not a positive sign especially when the majority have come in a short space of time.
A 3-0 defeat to Tottenham last week and then a 3-3 draw with Porto midweek will not fill the squad with hope. Especially after being 2-0 up against Porto in the week before conceding three goals and needing a last minute equaliser from Harry Maguire.
This will be a huge test for United. Anything other than a victory could be catastrophic for Ten Hag’s future at the club.
Aston Villa and Manchester United have faced one another on 198 occasions so far in their history. This set to be the 199th.
Manchester United hold a huge advantage having won an incredible 106 of those games. This to Villa’s 51 wins. There have also been 41 draws in that time.
Interestingly United are actually unbeaten in the last four against Villa. The last time Villa beat United was back in November 2022. Can the Red Devils continue that run here?
11th February 2024 - Aston Villa 1-2 Manchester United - Premier League
26th December 2023 - Manchester United 3-2 Aston Villa - Premier League
30th April 2023 - Manchester United 1-0 Aston Villa - Premier League
10th November 2022 - Manchester United 4-2 Aston Villa - English League Cup
6th November 2022 - Aston Villa 3-1 Manchester United - Premier League
Coming into this game a win is vital for both teams for very different reasons. However with United’s poor run of form we can’t help but feel that the writing is on the wall for Erik Ten Hag and this could be the end of his time at the club. Villa should have the power to beat what has proven to be a weak United side in recent months.
However, both teams score, and concede, a lot of goals as proven throughout this season. United won’t make it easy for Villa. This game has goals in it so expect a fair few to go in.
That is why our team of professional tipping experts are backing Aston Villa To Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals in this game. With odds of 2/1, £10 has the potential to return up to £30 making this the best value pick.
(Odds subject to change)
Aston Villa 3-1 Manchester United
Unai Emery’s side score a lot of goals and are often unrelenting against their opposition. With United’s struggles this season Villa should take advantage and win this game. This potentially the final nail in the coffin for Ten Hag’s time at United.
