The Riyadh Air Metropolitano will play host to the penultimate day of the Champions League group table stage. Atletico Madrid are currently four points safe in a knockout spot but will be looking to advance into a guaranteed next round spot as they sit in 11th place. Their opponents for this game are currently sat fourth place in the table with only a point separating them from 12th. There is still everything to play for in this tournament for both sides, but they both need to stay focused in order to ensure they continue to the next round.
Diego Simeone has not only made history but has also ensured his team have controlled the league. Becoming the first manager to take charge of the same La Liga side for 700 games, the Argentine’s side remain top of the table but Real Madrid are breathing down their necks. With two losses in the Champions League this season, Atletico Madrid are currently 11th in the table but only one point is separating them from third in the table.
Bayern Leverkusen have asserted their dominance once again in the Bundesliga and the Champions League. Currently second in the Bundesliga, Xabi Alonso’s side have only tasted defeat once in the league and are a measly five points behind Bayern Munich. Alonso’s side have not let up in the Champions League either, sitting fourth in the table they also have only tasted defeat once from their six games in the competition so far.
Formation: 4-4-2
Predicted Line-Up: Oblak; Galán, Lenglet, Le Normand, Llorente; Gallagher, Barios, De Paul, Simeone; Alvarez, Griezmann
Atletico Madrid are on an electric run. Accumulating a win streak of 17 before being stopped in their tracks by CD Leganes. Madrid will need to bring their A-game for this fixture if they want to take a step closer into ensuring qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League. Antoine Griezmann and Julian Alvarez have been a formidable partnership in this tournament so far, combining for eight goals, these two have enjoyed working up top together.
Formation: 4-3-2-1
Predicted Line-Up: Kovar; Hincapié, Tapsoba, Tah, Mukiele; Grimaldo, Andrich, Frimpong; Wirtz, Palacios; Schick
Similarly to Atletico, Leverkusen are also enjoying a huge win streak. A 1-0 win against Mainz saw Alonso’s side take their tally to 11 wins from their last 11 games across all competitions. Good news has sprung for the German side as it has been reported that Jonathan Tah has returned to training and will in turn be available for selection against Atletico Madrid. Florian Wirtz has been the centre of attention in the Champions League for Leverkusen this season. Collecting five goals and an assist from six games, Wirtz is again showing his quality at such a young age.
These two sides have not faced off against each other since October 2022, which saw that game end in a stalemate. Leverkusen were victorious in the reverse fixture for that campaign but with both teams in phenomenal form, this game is an even playing field for the two sides.
Atletico Madrid had a blip in their last game, however they still showed off their dominance through possession and more chances on goal. It will be a tough fight in this game, but I think Atletico Madrid will just edge it.
For this reason, our betting experts suggest Atletico Madrid to Win is the best value tip for this game. With odds at 6/4, a bet of £10 could result in a return of up to £25
