Both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid need points in order to close the gap on Barcelona, who have managed to win every game so far this season. Real Madrid start the weekend four points behind them while Atletico are a further two points behind that.
All three teams were in Champions League action last week with varying levels of success.
Last season was poor for Atletico while Real ran away with the league, so they will be hoping for that not to happen again this year.
Both teams are in good form, having not lost so far in the league, but Real Madrid, in their last five matches have managed two more points owing to Atleti’s draw with Rayo Vallecano last weekend.
Since their last draw, at the end of last month, Real have been in blistering form, scoring a whole host of goals in both La Liga and the Champions League, without much reply. Only Alaves put up much of a fight.
Atletico Madrid Predicted Lineup - Jan Oblak; Reinildo, Jose Maria Gimenez, Robin Le Normand, Nahuel Molina; Rodrigo Riquelme, Koke, Conor Gallagher, Marcos Llorente; Alexander Sorloth, Antione Griezmann
Julian Alvarez may be looking for a starting spot in the Atletico Madrid team this weekend after he snatched the only goal late on against Celta Vigo. He has struggled slightly since signing for Atletico, but he has slowly returned to form over recent games.
Conor Gallagher has also impressed in Red and White since making the switch from Chelsea in the summer. He has nailed down a starting spot in the team alongside Atletico legend Koke.
Real Madrid Predicted Lineup - Thibaut Courtois; Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, Lucas Vazquez; Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde; Vinicius Jr, Endrick, Rodrygo
Real Madrid have all of a sudden kicked into gear after a slow start which included two draws in their first three games. Kylian Mbappe has scored a number of penalties so far this season, but his open play involvement has been somewhat lacking.
The French forward is now out of action with a muscle injury and it has yet to be confirmed when he will return and how long he will be out for. Endrick has proven a capable deputy and could come in to replace Mbappe this weekend. The Brazilian youngster has already scored twice in all competitions this season.
This is one of the biggest rivalries in football, as the two Madrid clubs are two of the oldest teams in Spain. Throughout history, Real Madrid have the upper hand in these fixtures, but away from home they can sometimes struggle.
Last season, despite the large gulf between the sides in the final table, Atletico Madrid managed four points from a possible six against their closest rivals. Real Madrid will be hoping that they can avoid a repeat performance.

Real Madrid are a lot of peoples favourites coming into this match, but Atletico Madrid shouldn’t be discounted. They have been defensively excellent so far this season, so if they get an early goal, it will be incredibly difficult for Los Blancos to break them down.
With Mbappe out, they are missing some firepower up top which could give Atletico the confidence they need to get something out of this game. It will be very tight for the full 90 minutes.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for a Full Time Draw. Odds of 5/2 on QuinnBet means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £35.
(odds subject to change)
Atletico Madrid 1-1 Real Madrid
The game will be tight and cagey for the most part with Atletico threatening the Real backline occasionally. The first goal will be crucial to the result of the game, as Atletico are masters of holding onto at least a point.
Mallorca have also started this season strongly, and they face Real Valladolid this weekend.
