Looking for their first win in over two months, AVS Futebol welcome Gil Vicente for another instalment of the Liga Portugal. AVS are a team founded in May 2023 and were quick to get their promotion to the top fight of Portuguese football, defeating Portimonense in the playoffs. On the other side of the pitch, travelling side Gil Vicente are unbeaten from their last seven games across all competitions. Currently ninth in the table, The Gilistas are locked in the middle with a safe gap from relegation but a big gap separating them from European football.
After Vilafranquense SAD relocated and became AVS Futebol they have done the one thing that the team separated from, U.D Vilafranquense, failed to do. Compete in the top tier of Portuguese football. While they made it there in their first season, it has not been smooth sailing since they arrived. Only accumulating two wins from a possible 18 games, AVS look set to go back down to the second tier if they cannot turn their form around.
Their opponents in complete contrast have not tasted defeat for their last seven games. They even managed a 3-1 victory over third place Porto as well as managing to withstand and halt the dynamite Viktor Gyökeres as they picked up a 0-0 draw against top of the league Sporting Lisbon. Bruno Pinheiro will need to ensure his team stay focused although on paper it is set to be a relatively straight-forward game for his side.
Formation: 3-4-3
Predicted Line-Up: Ochoa; Roux, Teixeira, Castro; Afonso, Grau, Assuncao, Fonseca; Piazon, Ribeiro, Mercado
AVS Futebol have had an unimpressive league campaign so far, but they can still bounce themselves out of the relegation zone if they can find their footing. They have managed some decent results recently, picking up four draws from their last five games with one of those coming to second in the league Benfica. Both of AVS Futebol wins this season have come in front of their home crowd and have accumulated ten of their 15 points at the Estádio de Clube Desportivo das Aves.
Formation: 4-3-3
Predicted Line-Up: Andrew; Cruz, Fernandes, Josué, Carlos; Caseres, Gabonese, Fujimoto; Correia, Pablo, Toure
Unlike their opponents, Gil Vicente have enjoyed a good run of form recently. Unbeaten from their last seven, the Galors have the pressure taken slightly off them as they have created a safe gap above the relegation zone but are also too far behind to start a fight for European football. Portuguese winger Felix Correira has been at the helm for Gil Vicente’s season, collecting eight goal contributions and has currently scored a goal in each of his last three games. With the opponents in shocking form, Bruno Pinheiro’s side can continue their run and establish a bigger gap above relegation.
These two teams have only met once before at the beginning of the season, which saw a goal fest resulting in a 4-2 win for Gil Vicente. A hat trick by Gil Vicente midfielder Kanya Fujimoto was enough to put away Jorge Costa’s side.
AVS Futebol are struggling for results but finding the back of the net has been something they can do, managing a goal in four out of their last five games. Gil Vicente have beaten them once and with the form they are in it looks as if they are going to do it again.
For this reason, our betting experts suggest Gil Vicente to win and Both Teams To Score is the best value tip for this game. With odds at 22/5, a bet of £10 could result in a return of up to £54.
