League A Group 2 of the UEFA Nations League continues this week, on Thursday 14th November 2024, as Belgium take on Italy at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels.
As the UEFA Nations League group stages draw to a close this game is a must win for both Belgium and Italy. A win here will guarantee Italy’s place in the next round of the competition. While Belgium will be desperate to pick up three points and potentially sneak in themselves - so long as other games go their way.
Belgium Predicted Lineup - Koen Casteels; Maxim De Cuyper, Arthur Theate, Wout Faes, Timothy Castagne; Amadou Onana, Arne Engels, Orel Mangala; Lois Openda, Romelu Lukaku, Dodi Lukebakio
So far in the UEFA Nations League Belgium have picked up four points from four games. With just one victory and one draw to their name they will be disappointed despite being in a tough group alongside both Italy and France.
They don’t tend to score many goals having only found the back of the net six times so far this tournament. But they will need to start scoring if they are to defeat what is a strong Italy side.
Main man up front Romelu Lukaku has four goals and five assists so far for Napoli. Will he have an impact on this game?
Italy Predicted Lineup - Gianluigi Donnarumma; Alessandro Bastoni, Alessandro Buongiorno, Giovanni Di Lorenzo; Federico DiMarco, Sandro Tonali, Nicolo Barella, Davide Frattesi, Andrea Cambiaso; Giacomo Raspadori; Mateo Retegui
Surprisingly Italy have been the team to beat so far in the Nations League. As it stands they are unbeaten with four wins and one draw to their name. This putting them on an incredible ten points in what is on paper a very difficult group.
Interestingly their defence has been very good having only conceded five but where they are strongest is up front. They have managed eleven goals this campaign.
A big part of that has been Davide Frattesi who has three goals - he is their top scorer this tournament. Will he score again here?
These two nations have played one another 25 times in their histories.
Italy hold a huge advantage having won 16 of those matches while Belgium have won just four. There have also been five draws in that time.
Not only this but Belgium haven’t beaten Italy in the last four attempts. Their last win was in 2015. Will that continue here?
10th October 2024 - Italy 2-2 Belgium - UEFA Nations League
10th October 2021 - Italy 2-1 Belgium - UEFA Nations League
2nd July 2021 - Belgium 1-2 Italy - UEFA European Championship
13th June 2016 - Belgium 0-2 Italy - UEFA European Championship
13th November 2015 - Belgium 3-1 Italy - International Friendly
This is bound to be a close and interesting fixture between two teams keen to pick up a victory in what is a big game. However Italy are certainly the stronger of the two sides and should come away with yet another victory in this game.
We are backing Italy To Win in this game with odds of 47/25, £10 returning up to £28.80.
(Odds subject to change)
Belgium 0-2 Italy
