Birmingham City welcome Bolton Wanderers for what will be a tough clash in the third tier in English football.
Birmingham City Predicted Line-up: Ryan Allsop; Alex Cochrane, Ben Davies, Christoph Klarer, Taylor Gardner-Hickman; Paik Seung-ho, Tomoki Iwata; Emil Hansson, Willum Þór Willumsson, Keshi Anderson; Alfie May
Birmingham City look by far the best side in the division so far in League One. Yes, they’ve spent a lot of money, but that has been executed exceptionally well. They have a clear game plan under Chris Davies and a real chance at winning the league this campaign.
At home, Birmingham are yet to lose in the league so far. They’ve taken four wins from five league home fixtures.
In the league, they currently sit in first with 25 points from an opening 10 games. Eighth wins, one draw and one loss. Not bad.
When it comes to standout players, it’s hard to look past their new signing in midfield Willum Thor Willumson. The Icelandic player has been excellent to start the campaign, with strong physical attributes but also the perfect blend with technical capabilities.
Bolton Wandered Predicted Line-up: Luke Southwood; George Johnston, Ricardo Santos, Josh Dacres-Cogley; Szabolcs Schön, Josh Sheehan, Kyle Dempsey, Randell Williams; John McAtee, Aaron Collins; Dion Charles
Bolton had a rocky period at one point in the 2024/25 campaign, but recently they’ve seen four wins from their last two league games, unbeaten in all of those. In the league, they sit sit 11th but very much seem to be on the back of a tough patch. We expect them to give Birmingham a hard game.
Their striker Dion Charles has already scored six goals so far and assisted twice across all competitions. If Bolton are in need of a calm finisher, they have that in Charles.
Back in the 2018/19 season, both of these clubs were instead in the second tier of English football, when Bolton won both games home and away. They now find themselves in the third tier.

We’re backing a draw for this match. It seems that when looking at form, both of the clubs involved are in a very good place. We don’t think they’ll be able to break each other down to a significant degree.
