League one has been great watching this season, probably due to the newfound quality to the league, and it’s certainly exciting to bet on.
We’re taking a look at Saturday’s action, as Chris Davies’ Birmingham City team take on Jon Brady’s Northampton Town.
Birmingham City have captured all the headlines this season, and rightly so. They’ve spent a warchest, and sit 2nd in the table. Northampton, on the other hand, are 18th with 14 less points than their opponents.
Birmingham City Predicted Line-up - Ryan Allsop; Alex Cochrane, Ben Davies, Christoph Klarer, Ethan Laird; Seung-Ho Paik, Tomoki Iwata; Keshi Anderson, Jay Stansfield, Willum Thor Willumsson, Alfie May
Birmingham have looked the dominant side we expected given their lavish summer transfer window, although Wycombe look a real threat to their title hopes.
They really impressed in the EFL Trophy with a 7-1 win over Fulham u21’s, as well as against Bolton Wanderers in the league.
League One record signing Jay Stansfield will once again be the focal point for Birmingham, he’s been lethal in all competitions.
Northampton Town Predicted Line-up - Lee Burge; Nesta Guinness-Walker, Jon Guthrie, Jack Baldwin, Akinwale Odimayo; Samy Couchane, Ben Fox; Tarique Fosu-Henry, Cameron McGeehan, Mitchell Pinnock; Tyler Roberts
Northampton head into this match just four points from the relegation zone, so they’ll be desperate for a result here.
They’ve really just won the games you’d expect them to, but did impress in their 3-0 victory over Crawley Town.
Tyler Roberts returns from suspension, and he’ll be looking to grab his first of the season.
These two sides have met three times since 2005. Of their meetings, Birmingham City have won one, and so have Northampton.
The other match happened to be a draw, so it’s tough to separate these sides here with such a small sample size.
19th July 2023 - Northampton 0-1 Birmingham - Friendly
24th July 2021 - Northampton 3-2 Birmingham - Friendly
21st July 2015 - Northampton 2-2 Birmingham - Friendly
Birmingham have been fantastic this season, and I think it’s only a matter of time before they reclaim 1st position in the league.
They also have a habit of scoring early doors, so we think it’s safe to predict them to be leading at both half time and full time.
Overall we think the best bet to place for this game would be Birmingham City half time/full time, backed up by our research.
Odds of 4/5 on QuinnBet mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £18 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Birmingham City 3-1 Northampton Town
Birmingham City will take a step toward reclaiming the League One top spot.
The night before, Watford host Oxford United.
