Sheffield Wednesday haven’t quite lived up to the hype that was set for them at the start of the campaign. They kicked-off with a fabulous 4-0 win over Plymouth Argyle in the opener but have since then they haven’t been able to win in the league.
Sheffield Wednesday stats so far this season:
In the EFL Cup though, Sheffield Wednesday have been strong. They started off with a 2-1 win away at Hull City for the fist round, and then battered Grimsby Town 5-1 also on the road. Under manager Danny Rohl, the Owls have looked promising this season at times, but their habit of conceding goals when they shouldn’t will hurt them.
Blackpool meanwhile have been able to turn their form around in their recent fixtures. After parting ways with manager Neil Critchly at the end of August, the experienced Steve Bruve has now taken Charge. Whilst we don’t think they have the quality to better a Championship side, they did pick up a win at home to Exeter City last time out.
Blackpool’s quality in the EFL Cup also shouldn’t be ignored. They defeated fellow third tier side Burton Albion 4-0 away from home, and then followed that up with a 2-1 win away to second tier side Blackburn Rovers.
