Benfica are usually a dominant force in Portugal having lifted the domestic title a record 38 times but in the opening five games they have found themselves sat in fifth place, leaving a lot of work to do in the remainder of the season.
Benfica will undoubtably challenge for the title this season and they are on their way in doing. They might be in seventh place at the moment but that doesn’t tell you that Benfica are actually unbeaten across the first five games.
Playing a huge role in that is Orkun Kökcü. The Turkish midfielder has contributed towards four goal involvements, three assists and one goal. He might have been looking for a move away last winter but he has been committed ever since and proving why Benfica would only take a huge sum of money.
Predicted Line-Up: César; Gomes, Abascal, Ferreira, Onyemaechi; Vukotic, Ibrahima, Perez; Miguel, Bozenik, Agra
Last season Boavista climbed all the way up to ninth place in the league standings, their best result in the last five years. They could finish around that sort of position this campaign but they need to step their game up as after the opening five matches, they are left in 14th. In their first game of the season, Boavista achieved a win on the road, a 0-1 victory versus Casa Pia AC. It went downhill from there as the next two games were consecutive 1-0 losses to Braga and Famalicao respectively. Boavista have picked up some form and are now on a two game unbeaten streak after back to back draws, the first of which a goalless affair with Estoril and then a goal filled 2-2 with Estrela da Amadora where former Manchester United winger Nani found the back of the net for the opposition.
As Panteras will be without goalkeeper João Gonçalves as he recently tor his ACL and Miguel Reisinho misses this game through injury as well. New tactics might have to be found if they want a chance in trying to beat the might Benfica. Boavista have no clear top scorer as there are currently three different goalscorers from the three goals that they have scored this season, Reisinho being one of them.
Predicted Line-Up: Trubin; Kaboré, Silva, Otamendi, Fernández; Luis, Kökcü; Di Maria, Rollheiser, Akturkoglu; Pavlidis
Benfica are in flying form at the moment despite being in seventh position. A trip to Famalicao on the first day of the season didn’t go their way as they lost 2-0. They did improve in the next match, picking up all six points from the next two games with wins over Casa Pia AC and Estrela da Amadora, 3-0 and 1-0 wins to appease the home crowd. Benfica then took a slight dip in form after a 1-1 draw with Moreirense however they bounced back with a 4-1 thrashing of Santa Clara in their most recent domestic match.
As Águias also started another competition last Thursday and that would be the UEFA Champions League. The two Turks in the team, Kökcü and Akturkoglu both scored to aid Benfica to a 1-2 away win at Red Star Belgrade. It will be tough for them this year as the format is changed and Benfica will still try to compete for the title so squad depth will be key for them. The injury list is growing for Benfica unfortunately, Renato Sanches and Tiago Gouveia have both been ruled out of this clash with Boavista.
There have been 60 matches where these two teams have faced each other throughout history.
With Benfica being one of the best teams in European history, it is no surprise that they have the advantage as they have won 29 of those games. Boavista have managed to beat Benfica 13 times and a draw between the two sides has occurred 18 times.
The last five faceoffs have been split in Barcelona’s favour, winning three times to Villarreal’s two. Barcelona are in a great position to improve on their record and close the gap of four wins.

This fixture always delivers and with both teams desperate for a win to help with their current situations it should be a good one.
With Benfica winning the three out of five of the last meetings, it is hard not to think that they won’t win again and increasing their winning streak over Boavista. Nonetheless, Boavista have taken a challenge to Benfica over the years but the quality of Benfica’s squad surpasses that of Boavista.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with Benfica To Win + Under 2.5 Goals as our best value tip for this game.
Odds of 23/10 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £33 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Boavista 0-2 Benfica
Benfica are obvious favourites, but they have slightly struggled when facing off against Boavista in recent years. With Kökcü in fantastic form, he could be instrumental in Benfica’s efforts to take all three points back home. We can see him improving on the three assists he already has in this one.
