This Saturday’s Serie A action sees Como make the trip to face Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara. This is a crucial match for both sides, desperate for points for different reasons.
Both teams are having great seasons in comparison to each club. Over the last five games and Bologna are unbeaten across all competitions, including two tough matches in the UEFA Champions League. For a team like Como that is in their first Serie A season for a while, they haven’t fared too badly, grabbing two wins, two losses and a draw. This Saturday might not seem too exciting given the teams are sat at opposite ends of the table but the need to win from both sides should make it an interesting watch.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-Up: Lukasz Skorupski; Juan Miranda, Nicolò Casale, Sam Beukema, Emil Holm; Nikola Moro, Remo Freuler; Dan Ndoye, Jens Odgaard, Benja Domínguez; Thijs Dallinga
Bologna have had a great start to the season. They are on their way to try and match their best finish of the last 10 years, which they did last season, finding themselves just outside the European places so early on in the campaign. After 21 games they sit in eighth place with eight wins, three losses and 10 draws. Those matches have left them with 34 points, sharing that tally with Italian giants AC Milan but it is goal difference that stops Bologna from sitting higher up the Serie A standings. A win with results going their way across table and they could be in the UEFA Conference League qualifying spot, tied on points with fifth placed Juventus. In the goals for I Rossoblù has been winger Riccardo Orsolini. The 28 year old has provided 10 goal contributions, split into seven goals and three assists. Unfortunately for Bologna, Orsolini is unavailable for this match due to a hamstring injury that will see him sidelined until around mid-February. The remaining Bologna players will likely have to band together to become the difference maker this Saturday as three points today would be a massive boost to help achieve their season goals.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-Up: Jean Butez; Marco Sala, Marc Oliver Kemf, Alberto Dossena, Yannick Englehardt; Máximo Perrone, Maxence Caqueret; Alieu Fadera, Nico Paz, Gabriel Strefezza; Assane Diao
Como are having a good season for a team competing back in the Serie A after 21 years in the lower divisions. They find themselves relatively close to the relegation zone but the whole bottom half of the table are very bunched up together so they could easily climb higher. After 22 games they sit in 13th place with five wins, 10 losses and seven draws. Those matches have left them with 22 points, just two points afloat from 14th to the drop zone. Stepping up this season for I Lariani has been Serie A veteran, Patrick Cutrone. He has featured in all 22 of Como’s games so far and has found the back of the net six times and registered two assists in that time frame. It looks as if he won’t start but he could make a great impact off the bench. Como have made moves in the January transfer window, securing the signing of former Lyon midfielder Maxence Caqueret and former Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Dele Alli. They might not be goalscorers like Cutrone, but without him, the new arrivals and the rest of the original squad could be the difference makers this Saturday.
Since this is the first year in recent history that Como are playing in the topflight of Italian football, the only other meeting between these sides was the reverse fixture from this season. It ended in a stalemate with both sides sharing a point and two goals each. This Saturday might just swing in the favour of Bologna but a draw across the first half seems very likely.
