German giants Borussia Dortmund, managed by Nuri Sahin, take on Peter Zeidler’s VfL Bochum on Friday.
The match will take place in front of the yellow wall at the iconic Signal Iduna Park.
Last year’s Champions League finalists, Borussia Dortmund, haven’t had a great start to the season given the standards they’d set themselves.
That being said, they clearly possess far more quality than their upcoming opponents in Bochum, which will see them through the game.
Predicted Lineup - Kobel; Ryerson, Anton, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Nmecha, Gross; Adeyemi, Brandt, Bynoe-Gittens; Guirassy
The hosts endured a disappointing 5-1 defeat to Stuttgart last time out, which demonstrated the issues they’re facing in defence. Perhaps these are a result of dealing with the departure of Mats Hummels.
Despite this, they’ve looked very competent in the attacking third. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who we've earmarked as one of the young players to look out for in the Champions League, will provide a threat against what is an average Bochum side.
Predicted Lineup - Drewes; Passlack, Medic, Masovic, Wittek; Miyoshi, Sissoko, Bero; De Wit; Broschinski, Boadu
Bochum are yet to register a win in the Bundesliga season, and they notably fumbled a 2-1 lead at home to Kiel. However, they probably aren’t in danger of relegation thanks to the quality they possess compared the the bottom teams in the division.
Myron Boadu’s experience at the level will be vital for the away side.
The two sides have met a total of 24 times since 2003, with Dortmund clearly being the winners of this head to head battle.
Dortmund have won 10 of these fixtures, eight have ended as draws, and Bochum have won six.
28th January 2024 - Borussia Dortmund 3-1 VfL Bochum - Bundesliga
26th August 2023 - VfL Bochum 1-1 Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga
28th April 2023 - VfL Bochum 1-1 Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga
8th February 2023 - VfL Bochum 1-2 Borussia Dortmund - DFB Pokal
5th November 2022 - Borussia Dortmund 3-0 VfL Bochum - Bundesliga
Whilst Dortmund haven’t quite been themselves so far this season, we think their quality makes this a clear win for BVB, and Bochum will definitely secure their first win of the season.
Despite the quality advantage, Dortmund’s leaky defence means they’ll probably let at least one goal slip during the game.
We think overall the best value tip is Borussia Dortmund to win and both teams to score, backed up by our research.
Odds of 13/10 on Ladbrokes mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £23 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Borussia Dortmund 3-1 VfL Bochum
This will certainly be an interesting affair, as both teams clearly have a point to prove in the fixture.
Dortmund will be wanting to reclaim their previous dominance over all teams that aren’t Bayern Munich, whilst Bochum will be wanting to show their following that they belong in the division.
Whilst Dortmund aren't ripping up trees so far this season, we have thrown our hat in the ring when it comes to who will win the Bundesliga this season.
