Thursday night action sees Bradford City host Notts County at Valley Parade in League Two this week. Both sides share the same ambitions heading into the final four matches - Bradford are within touching distance of automatic promotion and Notts County trailing not too far behind.
This fixture provides a clash of the titans in League Two. This season, Bradford City have finally taken the step forward they have been desperate for. The Bantams currently sit in second spot, chasing down Port Vale who top the division three points clear. Furthermore, Bradford have a position of their own to retain as they only stretch one point above Walsall in third and two points above Doncaster in fourth – a team that also have a game in hand.
Graham Alexander’s men have struggled as of late, only picking up two wins amongst their last seven matches. The Bantams suffered heartbreak in their last visit out, as a 95th minute own goal lost them their away trip to Swindon with a thrilling 5-4 score line. On the back of a poor spell of form, the Yorkshiremen’s fixtures do not get much simpler; they have to play two teams in the playoffs in Notts County and Doncaster, as well as Chesterfield who are only four points off seventh.
As for Notts County, their form has not been too pleasing either. Last Friday marked a second league defeat on the spin for Stuart Maynard’s men, as the losses to Salford and Colchester made it five losses from their last nine matches. Despite recent form, the Magpies remain occupant of a playoff spot in sixth. Although they are towards the bottom half of the playoffs, County are also only four points off an automatic promotion place – demonstrating how tight the League Two promotion pool is.
Bradford City Predicted Line-Up: S. Walker, Critchlow, Shepherd, Byrne, Adaramola, Halliday, J. Walker, Pattison, Pointon, Khela, Kavanagh
Bradford have been without their star-man Andy Cook since his injury on New Year’s Day. It is hard to replace a man who had scored 12 goals by the New Year, though 21-year-old Calum Kavanagh has made a valiant effort of it. The Irishman has netted nine goals and created five assists for Bradford in League Two this season, including a 35-minute hatrick in their last game against Swindon Town.
With regard to their last game, experienced midfielder Richard Smallwood’s early red card on Saturday means that the captain will be suspended for their fixture against Notts County.
Notts County Predicted Line-Up: Slocombe, Macari, Platt, Bedeau, Tsaroulla, Hinchy, Palmer, Jarvis, Whitaker, McGoldrick, Jatta
Alassana Jatta and David McGoldrick have the most lethal striker partnership in League Two this season. With a combined 33 goals in the fourth division, they both look to share the podium for the league’s top scorers.
McGoldrick’s scoring prowess has been showcased in the EFL for years now, although Jatta is a fresh face on the scene. The Gambian made the move to County last February and has since hit the ground running in black and white. Scoring 17 league goals this campaign, the 26-year-old continues to chase down the League Two Golden Boot award.
Notts County have made a humiliation of Bradford City in recent events. Since the Magpies’ return to the Football League in 2023, this fixture has been played three times – all being won by Notts County. As well as winning three times, they also managed stick ten goals past the Bantams in these games. The previous three fixtures of this tie are as follows:
Both teams are fighting at the top end of the table. However, they have each experienced a poor run of form as of late. Absences for Bradford in this fixture and the attacking fluency of Notts County could play a huge part towards the end result.
