The second round of Premier League action gets underway this weekend with what is sure to be a huge fixture between Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United with both sides looking to continue their good opening fixture form.
In their histories these sides have faced one another on 33 occasions. This game is set to be the 34th meeting between them.
Manchester United is of course the side that has the advantage winning a staggering 21 of those games to Brighton’s 7 wins. Only 5 of the matches have ended in a draw.
In more recent times the Seagulls have proven a tough task for United though with Brighton winning 4 of the last 6 games between them. However, Manchester United have still won 9 of the last 13 games between the sides.
The last game between them took place on the final day of last season at the AMEX stadium. The final result was a 2-0 win for the Red Devils thanks to goals from Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund. Will we see a similar result here?
Both sides come into this game with no new injury issues and are expected to start similar sides to that of their last games.
Brighton will be without Solly March and Evan Ferguson with injuries keeping each of them out for at least another month - if not more.
United on the other hand will likely remain without Luke Shaw. Leny Yoro, Victor Lindelof and Tyrell Malacia will also likely miss out.
Harry Maguire was seen limping off in United’s opening game against Fulham which manager Erik Ten Hag later explained off as being “precaution”. However, it could be an opportunity to give new signing Matthijs de Ligt his first start of the season.
Brighton & Hove Albion - Jason Steele, Joel Veltman, Jan Paul van Hecke, Lewis Dunk, Jack Hinshelwood, Mats Wieffer, James Milner, Kaoru Mitoma, João Pedro, Simon Adingra, Danny Welbeck
Manchester United - Andre Onana, Diogo Dalot, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Noussair Mazraoui, Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee, Alejandro Garnacho
Even at the age of 33, Danny Welbeck is still proving himself to be a fantastic attacker and in this game we expect no different.
Managing a goal in the last game against Everton he clearly still has attacking prowess. And to make things better for him going into this game Welbeck has 6 goals in 15 games against Manchester United in all competitions in his career. This, certainly not a bad return.
Will he continue that form in this game as well?
Coming into this game this is bound to be a close fixture that could very easily go either way.
However, despite that, Brighton come into this game in better form and are certainly playing better football. They score a lot of goals and considering United’s record in conceding as well there are sure to be Brighton goals in this game.
That being said, our team of professional tipping experts are backing odds of 11/2 for A Draw at Half Time and a Brighton Win come Full Time. With these odds, £10 has the potential to return a potential £65 making it the best value tip for this game.
This game is set to get underway at 12:30 pm on Saturday 24th August 2024. And as with all the early Saturday fixtures in the Premier League the game will be shown live on TNT Sports.
