Another European matchweek comes to an end, and we’re back to domestic action across the top five leagues.
We’re taking a deep dive into Friday’s game, where Davide Nicola’s Cagliari host Paolo Zanetti’s Hellas Verona.
Both teams will be disappointed with the way they’ve started the season, with Cagliari sat 16th, and Verona sat 14th.
Cagliari Predicted Line-up - Alen Scuffet; Gabriele Zappa, Yerry Mina, Sebastiano Luperto, Tommaso Augello; Razvan Marin, Michel Ndary Adopo; Nadir Zortea, Gianluca Gaetano, Zito Luvumbo; Roberto Piccoli
Cagliari, although haven’t won in their last five, have shown in their last two games that they’re able to pick up important points.
They had high-scoring draws with both Genoa and Milan, so they clearly do have some quality.
Razvan Marin has been excellent, providing a goal threat from midfield.
Hellas Verona Predicted Line-up - Lorenzo Montipo; Jackson Tchatchoua, Pawel Dawidowicz, Giangiacomo Magnani, Domagoj Bradaric; Reda Belahyane, Suat Serdar; Tomas Suslov, Abdou Harroui, Darko Lazovic; Casper Tengstedt
I’d certainly expect at least a change in shape from Hellas Verona after their recent form.
They were pummelled 5-0 by Inter last time out, so they’ll need to change something.
Casper Tengstedt does have four goals to his name this season, but the defence will need to step up if they want to avoid another loss.
In these sides' last five meetings, Hellas Verona have won three games, and Cagliari haven’t won any.
Two matches resulted in a draw.
1st April 2024 - Cagliari 1-1 Verona - Serie A
23rd December 2023 - Verona 2-0 Cagliari - Serie A
30th April 2022 - Cagliari 1-2 Verona - Serie A
30th November 2021 - Verona 0-0 Cagliari - Serie A
3rd April 2021 - Cagliari 0-2 Verona - Serie A
Verona might currently be sat above Cagliari in the Serie A table, but I don’t think that they’re by any means the stronger side.
Their weak defence sets them below their opposition, so I’d expect some goals in this game.
Overall we think the best bet to place for this game would be Cagliari to win & over 2.5 goals, backed up by our research.
Odds of 21/10 on Ladbrokes mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £31 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Cagliari 3-1 Hellas Verona
An exciting game is right ahead of us, and I think Cagliari will edge this high scoring contest.
At the same time, Sheffield United host Sunderland.
