The giants of Celtic, managed by Brendan Rogers, are set to take on John McGlynn’s Falkirk in the Scottish League Cup this sunday.
The match will take place at Celtic Park, as the top teams in Scotland’s top two divisions face off.
Celtic have been on fantastic form so far this season, and have won all of their matches in both the SPFL and the Champions League.
Brendan Rogers has got his team flying, and they look like they could even end up invincible again this season.
Schmeichel in goal will certainly help out if Falkirk manage to launch a counter attack.
Predicted Lineup - Schmeichel; Ralston, Trusty, Scales, Taylor; Engels, McGregor, Bernardo; Forrest, Idah, Palma
Celtic beat Hibernian 3-1 in order to progress to this round, and have been absolutely flying so far this campaign. They sit atop the SPFL table without breaking a sweat, and they’ve won every game so far.
Last time out striker Adam Idah scored his first Champions League goal, and we’d expect him to start.
We’d also expect Rodgers to hand Austin Trusty his first start of the season.
Predicted Lineup - Hogarth; Adams, Donaldson, Henderson, Mackie; Spencer, Tait; Ross, Oliver, Miller; MacIver
Falkirk impressively dispatched Hearts 2-0 in order to progress to this round of the Scottish League Cup, and sit atop the Scottish second division table comfortably.
They look really good value for promotion, and will want to also do well in the cup. They’ve only lost two of their first 11 fixtures in all competitions, and have won all five of their League games so far.
Since 2005, the sides have met a total of 20 times.
In this time, Celtic have won a whopping 16 times in this fixture, which is unsurprising giving their consistent dominance in Scottish football.
Falkirk have managed to grab just one win in the sides head to head record, whilst there has also been three draws in the time frame.
It’s not really a shock that Celtic have looked dominant in this specific fixture, we’d imagine their record looks similar against any Scottish side.
3rd April 2021 - Celtic 3-0 Falkirk - Scottish Cup
29th January 2012 - Falkirk 3-1 Celtic - Scottish League Cup
7th March 2010 - Falkirk 0-2 Celtic - SPFL
16th January 2010 - Celtic 1-1 Falkirk - SPFL
8th November 2009 - Falkirk 3-3 Celtic - SPFL
Whilst Falkirk have impressed in the Scottish Second tier, we think Celtic’s overall quality will best their opponents easily when the sides meet on Sunday.
Celtic look the strongest they’ve looked in years, and even when they didn’t they were clearly dominant over Falkirk judging by their recent head to head record.
We think this will be an easy win for the Glasgow giants.
We think overall the best value tip is Celtic to win both halves in this game, backed up by our research.
Odds of 3/4 on Ladbrokes mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £17.50 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Celtic 4-0 Falkirk
It’ll be interesting to see the quality gap between the Scottish first and second tiers, as the leaders of both leagues take on each other on Sunday.
That being said, don’t read too far into this result, as Celtic are a cut above most of the other teams in the SPFL, and Falkirk have already beaten two teams in that league already this season.
