Chelsea’s Women’s team travel up to Scotland this week to face Celtic in the Champions League. The Women’s competition has not moved into the new format like the men’s has.
Celtic Women will not be expecting a result in this game considering their form so far in the competition. The differences between their league performances and their European performances is drastic.
Chelsea are in fine form, having scored 13 goals in their last three league games. That is quite an impressive record considering they have played Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton, all sides who are no push-overs.
Celtic Women Predicted Lineup - Kelsey Daugherty; Bruna Costa, Kelly Clark, Emma Lawton; Lucy Ashworth-Clifford, Colette Cavanagh, Shannon McGregor, Jennifer Smith; Murphy Agnew, Amy Gallacher; Saoirse Noonan
At the weekend, Celtic progressed into the Semi-Finals of the SWPL Cup, beating Glasgow City on penalties after a 0-0 draw. While the result was good, they failed to score against a team in their domestic league, so they have little hope of managing even a single goal against one of the best teams in women's football.
Saoirse Noonan will be playing up top having started her career in Scotland strongly. She joined the side from Durham in the Women’s Championship in the summer.
Chelsea Women Predicted Lineup - Zecira Musovic; Ashley Lawrence, Nathalie Bjorn, Kadeisha Buchanan, Eve Perisset; Maika Hamano, Oriane Jean-Francois, Wieke Kaptein; Sandy Baltimore, Aggie Beever-Jones, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd
Chelsea are currently flying in the WSL, having won all six of their games. They are second only because Manchester City have played one more game than them, and drawn it. For their match against FC Twente in the Champions League, Chelsea fielded a much changed team from their strongest XI so that could happen this time around too.
Guro Reiten has six league goals so far this season as well as two in the Champions League. She doesn’t tend to start Champions League games, as she is rested for the harder league fixtures, but she does pop up from the bench with a goal, so I think she could do the same again here.
These two sides haven’t met in a competitive fixture in their histories. Chelsea’s record in the Women’s Champions League is much better than Celtic’s as this is the Scottish side’s first time in the Group Stage of the competition.
Chelsea are in perfect form and there is a real possibility that the result of this game could look like a cricket score. Celtic are yet to score in the Champions League this season and it certainly won’t start here.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Chelsea Women to Win + Over 4.5 Goals. Odds of 6/5 on Ladbrokes means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £22.
(odds subject to change)
Celtic Women 0-6 Chelsea Women
In England, there is still EFL Trophy action taking place across the international break. League Two leaders Port Vale host Wrexham and Charlton host Bromley.
