Chelsea vs Newcastle United Prediction

Saturday's Premier League action see’s 6th placed Chelsea meet take on ninth placed Newcastle.

The game is the second in a sequence of very tough games for Chelsea, who will want a win here if they are to keep themselves in the race for a Champions League spot. A loss could see them fall to ninth.

Meanwhile, Newcastle haven't won in the league since the 15th of September, and with their own run of fixtures not getting any easier, they will have their eye on this game as a chance to address their shortcomings of the last month or so.

As the game edges closer, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.

Key Statistics

  • Chelsea have scored 15 goals in their last five matches, compared to Newcastle’s 3.
  • In the last five meetings between the two, the game has been drawn three times after 90 minutes.
  • Newcastle have failed to score in their last two league games, their longest barren run in the top flight since February 2023.
  • They are the lowest scoring team in the top half of the table, tied alongside Nottingham Forests’ 8.

Chelsea Preview

Chelsea Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Robert Sanchez (GK); Marc Cucurella, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Reece James; Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo; Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Noni Maduke; Nicolas Jackson.

Despite losing at Anfield over the weekend, Chelsea were able to leave Liverpool with their heads held high. They pushed the league leaders all the way, and had a couple of chances fallen to Cole Palmer differently, they could well have departed with three points.

Enzo Maresca will be pleased with how his team performed: Nicolas Jackson scored his fifth league goal of the season as he continued his good form, Pedro Neto looked dangerous and influential, and returning captain Reece James looked completely at home on his return to the starting lineup.

It speaks volumes that before the Liverpool match, Chelsea fans were elated at the news that for the first time in what seems like forever, they were missing no players through injury. Ravaged by sidelined players over the last few seasons, Chelsea will have the benefit of a fully fit squad, giving them the upper hand against an injury-hit Newcastle.

Newcastle United Preview

Newcastle United Predicted Lineup (4-3-3): Nick Pope (GK); Lewis Hall, Dan Burn, Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento; Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali; Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak, Jacob Murphy.

Newcastle’s poor recent form has gone slightly under the radar. On a four game winless run, their first defeat of the season came against an in-form Fulham side, before the Magpies took a credible point from a home draw to Man City.

However, failing to score away to Everton and then at home to Brighton has sparked concern, and currently lying ninth, Newcastle suddenly require a win to remain in the chasing pack for European football.

Their form could be put down to injuries, as Newcastle are missing multiple key players, including Keiran Trippier, Sven Botman and Jamal Lascelles. However, these injuries pave the way for former Chelsea boys Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento to make a starting return to their boyhood club.

Chelsea vs Newcastle United Betting Tip

With Newcastle struggling for form, Chelsea will look at this game as a big opportunity for three critical points in the race for Europe.

I reckon Enzo Maresca’s side will win, as their attacking play in the early part of the season has looked lethal, but they still look vulnerable to conceding a cheap goal, something the Italian will have to address if Chelsea are to be genuine Champions League prospects.

We reckon Chelsea will get the win, but both sides will score, a theme that seems to be recurring in Chelsea games recently.

Chelsea vs Newcastle Final Prediction

Chelsea 4-1 Newcastle

Chelsea have scored four or more goals in four of their last six games, including their most recent fixtures, a 4-1 win to Greek side Panathinaikos in the Conference league. Using a totally rotated squad, they looked fluid and familiar in places where in Pochettino last season, they would have looked clunky and indecisive.

With their first team lineup returning to the field for this game, Chelsea will look dangerous every time they come forward.
