The EFL Championship season continues this Friday with Coventry City hosting Oxford United in what is an intriguing encounter.
Believe it or not, these teams have only met 15 times in their histories. This set to be the 16th game between them.
In that time Coventry have the advantage having won 9 of those games to Oxford United’s 5. Just 1 game has ended in a draw.
The last time they played one another though was back in January in the FA Cup. Coventry obviously took the victory in that game in an FA Cup campaign where they reached the Semi Finals. The final score was 6-2 to the hosts.
Coming into this game there are no new injury issues for either side and it is expected they will play a very similar if not unchanged team to that of their previous matchup.
Coventry’s Ben Sheaf is the only player that is missing for either side after he picked up an ankle injury in preseason.
Coventry City - Oliver Dovin, Jake Bidwell, Bobby Thomas, Luis Binks, Milan van Ewijk, Victor Torp, Jamie Allen, Jack Rudoni, Ephron Mason-Clark, Ellis Simms, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto
Oxford United - Jamie Cumming, Sam Long, Elliott Moore, Ciaron Brown, Joe Bennett, Will Vaulks, Tyler Goodrham, Rúben Rodrigues, Cameron Brannagan, Przemysław Płacheta, Mark Harris
Despite a slow start to the season in their opening game Coventry did manage to claim victory in their last match in the EFL Cup against Bristol City on Tuesday. Their goalscorer Ellis Simms getting his tally off and running for this season.
He is certainly the man to watch having managed 19 goals in all competitions last season. With his scoring ability clear to see he will be looking to get his tally up and running in the league in this match.
Oxford United have started this season in remarkable fashion and we expect them to have another decent performance.
However Coventry are certainly the stronger team and it is games like this that could make a difference later on in the season when battling for those playoff spots. They need to pick up points especially against the weaker sides.
That is why our team of professional tipping experts are backing Coventry To Win and Both Teams To Score in this game. With odds of 21/10, a £10 bet could return up to £31 making it our best value tip for this fixture.
This game is set to get underway on Friday 16th August 2024 at 20:00 pm and you can check out all of the action live on Sky Sports Football.
