A managerless Derby County take on Manager of the Month Gary Rowatt as Oxford United make the journey to Pride Park for the latest instalment of the English Championship. With a draw in their last game, Derby extend their streak to nine games since their last win. Their opponents have also endured similar run, with the U’s unable to win in their last three matches.
Derby County have been in horrendous form, so much so that manager Paul Wayne was sacked only two days ago after a run of seven consecutive defeats has dropped them to the relegation zone. How will Derby County fair without a manager against the side that followed them up to the Championship?
The U’s had a phenomenal January, with manager Gary Rowett receiving the manager of the month award. However, their beginning to February has been less than desirable as the U’s are without a win from their first two games, collecting a draw against Bristol City and a 1-0 loss to Burnley who have been smashing it in their case to return to the Premier League.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-Up: Zetterstrom; Thompson, Forsyth, Phillips, Langas; Adams, Ozoh; Goudmijn, Salvesen, Mendez-Laing; Yates
Derby County have endured a rather unpleasant return to the Championship as the Rams currently sit in the relegation zone without a win since Boxing Day. Netting only two goals from their last two games, it is no surprise that manager Paul Wayne was given the boot after a great run in the League One. Scoring seven goals so far in his loan spell, Jerry Yates will be hoping to continue his run of good form to try and help his team to survive in the new league.
Formation: 4-3-2-1
Predicted Line-Up: Cumming; Leigh, Brown, Moore, Long; Brannagan, Matos ,Vaulks; Goodrham, Piacheta; Bradshaw
While it has not been fantastic, Oxford United’s run so far in the Championship has been more desirable than their opponents in this clash. Sat down in 17th place, they currently sit nine points clear of their opponents in the relegation zone. New signing Tom Bradshaw is desperately hunting his first goal for the U’s after signing with the club in the recent January transfer window. Featuring in their last five matches, Rowett continues to show his support in his new striker.
The reverse fixture between the two sides ended in a 1-1 stalemate but the U’s are without goalscorer in that match, Dane Scarlett, who was recalled by Tottenham Hotspur during the transfer window.
While Derby have struggled so far in the league, they proved last season they were a stronger side than Oxford United, finishing three places above them in the league. With Oxford United also struggling for wins, Derby should succeed in this game.
For this reason, our betting experts suggest Derby County to Win as the best value tip for this game. With odds at 11/10, a bet of £10 could see a return of up to £21
