Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday both look like mid table teams in the Championship this year, but they will have aspirations to challenge for the playoffs. They face each other at Pride Park in this week’s Sunday fixture.
Derby haven’t won in three games, but they did manage to find a point in two of them. They currently sit in 15th, but a mixture of a potent attack and a capable defense has steered them away from danger at the moment.
Sheffield Wednesday won their last match 2-0 against Hull City. Like Derby, they have shown that they have what it takes to compete in the Championship, and will be looking for a run of form to push them up the table.
Derby County Predicted Lineup - Jacob Widell Zetterstrom; Eiran Cashin, Curtis Nelson, Nat Phillips; Ebou Adams; Ben Osborn, Liam Thompson, Craig Forsyth, Kayden Jackson; Jerry Yates, Danjaune Brown
Derby have a couple of players out through injury who would possibly start if they were fit. Midfielders David Ozoh and Tawanda Chirewa are at the club on loan from Premier League sides Crystal Palace and Wolves respectively, but they are both out for a while with muscle injuries.
Jerry Yates, who joined the club on loan from Swansea in the summer, is Derby County’s top scorer so far this season with four league goals to his name. He has missed three games this season, including their midweek defeat to Swansea, his parent club.
Sheffield Wednesday Predicted Lineup - James Beadle; Max Lowe, Di’Shon Bernard, Dominic Iorfa, Yan Valery; Shea Charles; Marvin Johnson, Svante Ingelsson, Barry Bannan, Josh Windass; Michael Smith
Akin Famewo has been a big miss for Sheffield Wednesday since he picked up a muscle injury. He is expected to be out until at least March, which could see Wednesday make some moves in January to try and replace him.
Their biggest attacking threat is Josh Windass. With five league goals this campaign, he is already just one off his tally of six from last season. Windass has been at the club since 2019 and has played a total of 143 games.
These two clubs are some of the oldest in the country and so have played each other on numerous occasions in history. While Derby have won more times than Sheffield Wednesday, over the last five years, results have turned slightly.
7th May 2023 - Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Derby County - League One
3rd Dec 2022 - Derby County 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday - League One
8th May 2021 - Derby County 3-3 Sheffield Wednesday - Championship
1st Jan 2021 - Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Derby County - Championship
29th Feb 2020 - Sheffield Wednesday 1-3 Derby County - Championship
Both teams are in similar positions right now in terms of form and squad availability. Derby County are better at home, but Sheffield United are good away from home too, so this match looks too tight to call. It will certainly be entertaining for the neutral as both sides will be going for it in this match.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for a Draw + BTTS. Odds of 18/5 on Parimatch means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £46.
