After falling short in the Championship Play-Off Finals last season, Leeds United will want to come back on a positive note. The best way to do that is by going the whole way this time and winning the Championship trophy outright, avoiding the Play-Offs. They have a great chance of doing it this season and here’s why.
Since being promoted to the Premier League at the end of the 2019/20 season, Leeds where able to survive until their eventual downfall and relegation back to the Championship in 2023. They have managed to achieve a club status of too good for the Championship but unfortunately not quite good enough to stay in the Premier League for around five years or longer.
Leeds have seen a lot of their players leave this summer transfer window with the likes of teenage star Archie Gray leaving for Tottenham and Luis Sinisterra joining Bournemouth after spending last year there on loan.
However, they have still managed to retain most of their best players. With many players returning to the Leeds squad after going out on loan, they have a well rounded team that has the quality of making it back to the Premier League.
The teams that threaten Leeds not winning the Championship would be the teams that have just been relegated from the Premier League. Parachuting between the two leagues is very common these days so Burnley, Luton Town and Sheffield United will all be seeking to make their way straight back up this year.
Burnley won the Championship two years ago, but they have since lost Vincent Kompany, the man that helped take them there and replaced him with Scott Parker who fans don’t believe is the best manager to try and make it back to the Prem.
Sheffield United were unbelievably bad last season and I feel they will struggle in the Championship as well with Wilder and his men finishing rock bottom of the league.
Luton Town under Rob Edwards picked up form after initially struggling at the start to the Premier League season last year but on paper, Leeds have the better and more valuable players that will be able to make a difference in multiple games next year.
