Lee Carsley takes charge of his third game as England manager as the Three Lions continue their UEFA Nations League campaign against Greece at Wembley on Thursday 10th October 2024.
England return to Wembley this week for the continuation of their UEFA Nations League campaign. This time though they take on Greece who are on hot form at the minute. This is bound to be an intriguing fixture.
England Predicted Lineup - Jordan Pickford; Rico Lewis, Levi Colwill, Marc Guehi, Trent Alexander-Arnold; Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham; Jack Grealish, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka; Ollie Watkins
Lee Carsley started his England managerial campaign with wins against both Finland and the Republic of Ireland setting England up with the perfect start to their Nations League campaign.
Both games ended in 2-0 victories not only showing England’s capabilities going forward but also their strong defensive abilities. Carsley has certainly set up a team that can win games.
The hunt for a new manager following Gareth Southgate’s departure from the National Team continues but another impressive victory here and in the game against Finland on Sunday could set Carsley in good stead to earning the position on a permanent basis himself.
Greece Predicted Lineup - Odysseas Vlachodimos; Konstantinos Tsimikas, Konstantinos Koulierakis, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Lazaros Rota; Dimitrios Kourbelis, Emmanouil Siopis; Christos Tzolis, Anastasios Bakasetas, Giorgos Masouras; Vangelis Pavlidis
Greece come into this game on a fairly good run of form themselves. They certainly won’t be pushovers for England as they are a tough team to beat.
The Greeks also started their Nations League campaign with convincing victories over Finland and the Republic of Ireland. In fact on goal difference they sit ahead of England in the League B Group Two table. Something they can potentially extend on in this match.
Believe it or not there have only been nine meetings between England and Greece before this match.
England are actually unbeaten in those games with Greece failing to win any of the previous matches. England have seven wins to their name with two of the games ending in draws.
The last time they played each other was in Steve McClaren’s first game in charge of the Three Lions. This back in 2006. The game ended 4-0. Can England do that again here?
16th August 2006 - England 4-0 Greece - International Friendly
6th October 2001 - England 2-2 Greece - FIFA World Cup Qualifier
6th June 2001 - Greece 0-2 England - FIFA World Cup Qualifier
17th May 1994 - England 5-0 Greece - International Friendly
8th February 1989 - Greece 1-2 England - International Friendly
This will be no easy test for England despite how the game may look on paper. Greece can often be a hard team to break down and despite goals England have proven recently that maybe their attacking output isn’t where it should be.
Although we think England will come away with the win in the end. Greece could provide a tough test for Carsley’s side suggesting Greece could go in front.
That is why our team of professional tipping experts are backing odds of 28/1 for Greece/England Half Time/Full Time in this match. £10 has the potential to return up to £310.
(Odds subject to change)
England 2-1 Greece
England will be expected to continue their great start under Carsley with another win. However Greece has the potential to expose flaws in England’s set up. This won’t be an easy match despite England most likely coming away with victory.
