An Airdrieonians home win is written all over this game. Going away on the opening day of a Scottish football season is difficult for any team, and we think that trend will continue on Saturday.
The home side are off the back of a strong run in the Scottish League Cup. So far this season, they’ve won three of their four games. Their only loss came to Premiership side Aberdeen, who they opened the game against and almost caused a major upset. Airdrieonians are in the swing of things.
Airdrieonians have also turned their Excelsior Stadium into a fortress as of late. They’re unbeaten in their last nine games at home. In their last three games there, they’ve not coned whilst winning all three of them very convincingly (2-0, 8-0 and 4-0).
New signings Ben Wilson has also been on fire so far for the home team. He’s managed to bag six goals in his first four games for the club, and register an assist. For a bargain price of 250k from CLiftonville, Wilson could be the difference maker in this match.
Raith Rovers on the other hand, after the play-off final heartbreak at the end of last season, will find it difficult to get going against Airdrieonians.
To add to the troubles for the visitors, they also haven’t been able to win on the opening day of a league season since 2020, which was their first year in the second-tier since their promotion.
We’re backing Airdrieonians to win this game. Through our bookmakers, you can get odds of 31/20. A £10 stake on this bet could see a return of £25.50.
