Off the back of last season, Darmstadt were hurt badly. They ended up getting relegated from the top-flight in Germany, with just 17 points from 34 games, and they also conceded 86 goals in the league (the most out of any team in the top three German division).
Whilst the rise of the club over the last decade has been sensational, their attempt to stay in the Bundesliga for the first time since 2016 was a massive failure.
And with their top-flight status gone, so has many key players for their squad. Marvin Mehlem, Mathias Honsak, Christoph Kalrer all played a combined 73 games in the Bundesliga last season, and have all been sold elsewhere. Whilst they have brought in nine new players, their Darmstadt side will be disjointed heading into their opening game of the season.
Dusseldorf however, will be ready to fight again. They lost the promotion play-off final on penalties last season to Bochum, after finishing third in the league with the most goals scored in the division (72).
We’re backing Dusseldorf to secure all three points on Sunday, and win the game. This bet could return £23.75 if you use our bookmakers from a £10 stake, with odds of 11/8.
