The UEFA Conference League is back for the first time since December. The knockout phase play-offs bring us an exciting clash between Danish club Copenhagen and German outfit Heidenheim. The winner faces either Vitoria de Guimaraes or Chelsea with two legs being played this month. Heidenheim are debutants on the European stage this season after they incredibly rose from the lower tiers of German football to qualify for Europe. Copenhagen are regulars on the continent -often in the Champions League - as one of the best teams in Denmark and will believe they can go deep in the competition.
Despite not playing a competitive match since mid-December, Copenhagen are in good form only losing twice in the Danish SuperLiga in 17 games. Before they lost to Rapid Vienna last time out they were on a 14-game unbeaten streak. Their form over the last seven competitive games is six wins one loss. They won two, lost two and drew two in the league phase of the Conference League.
Heidenheim have not had much luck in their second-ever Bundesliga season. Their form heading into this match is four straight losses. The poor statistics continue as FCH struggle to cope with extra matches, they have four Bundesliga wins all season, and one win in their last 15. In the league phase, they won three, lost two and drew one.
Predicted Line Up: Diant Ramaj; Birger Meling, Gabriel Pereira, Pantelis Hatzidiakos, Rodrigo Huescas; Thomas Delaney, William Clem, Robert, Viktor Claesson; Amin Chiakha, Mohamed Elyounoussi
Amin Chiakha has three goals in three Conference League games but has been given limited game time elsewhere in Copenhagen’s season. If the academy kid is given a chance to shine on Thursday then he will take it. Giant Ramaj has been loaned in from Dortmund and might make his debut in goal also.
Predicted Line Up: Kevin Muller; Norman Theuerkauf, Benedikt Gimber, Patrick Mainka, Omar Haktab Traore; Leo Scienza, Paul Wanner, Luca Kerber, Jan Schoppner, Sirlord Conteh; Maximilian Breunig
Heidenheim’s seven goals have all been scored by different players, but Sirlord Conteh has three assists to his name also. The winger was brought in from Paderborn in the summer and has been a big part of Heidenheim’s European campaign, scoring and assisting in the qualifying process as well.
These two have never met before due to it being Heidenheim’s debut season in Europe. Copenhagen’s record against German teams is poor though, after 22 matches they have won five drawn five and lost 12.
With Heidenheim out of form and playing away, it makes sense that Copenhagen walk away with the win here, especially with their European experience compared to Heidenheim’s.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with Copenhagen to win as our best value tip for this game. Odds of 8/11 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to 17.27 in this match.
