It’s the opening day of the UEFA Europa League and this particular match has the league leaders in Denmark invite German outfit TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to their stadium in an effort to finish inside the top 24 teams to give themselves a chance of making it into the Round of 16 when the time comes.
FC Midtjylland will undoubtably challenge for the title this season and they are on their way in doing so, currently sitting in first place after nine games of the Superligaen. They have yet to drop a point, winning all six games and drawing three.
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim are the polar opposite. They are struggling in the Bundesliga and sit just one place ahead of the relegation playoff spot. It is too soon to judge whether they will remain there come the end of the season as it has only been four games but the signs that they could down are there.
Predicted Line-Up: Olafsson; Mbabu, Diao, Bech, Andersson; Osorio, Martinez, Castillo, Byskov; Franculino, Kuchta
Reigning champions of the Superligaen FC Midtjylland have started their title defence strong. Unbeaten domestically so far, they have managed six wins and three draws. One of those draws coming in the first game of the campaign, a 1-1 result with AGF. Then another a week later, this time a 2-2 draw with Nordsjælland. It was after that game that they then got the wins going. Beating Aab 2-0, Vejle Boldklub with the same scoreline, Lyngby were defeated 1-2 away from home, Sønderjyske lost 3-2, another away win at Silkeborg with a 1-3 result, an important 2-1 win versus fellow title challengers FC København rounded out a six game winning streak before drawing 2-2 to Randers FC on Sunday.
Ulvene will feel a little disappointed as they had made it all the way to UEFA Champions League Qualification Final stage before unfortunately suffering a 4-3 aggregate defeat to Slovan Bratislava. They will take comfort in the fact their players are in great form. Both Aral Simsir and Oliver Sørensen have registered five goal contributions this season but the latter will be unavailable until mid October due to injury. Simsir could be the difference between a positive and negative result for Midtjylland in this match against Hoffenheim.
Predicted Line-Up: Baumann; Drexler, Hranac, Akpoguma; Kaderabek, Kramaric, Stach, Bischof, Prass; Bülter, Berisha
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim have been mightily unlucky as of late. In their first game of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season, they picked up all three points in a 3-2 win over Holstein Kiel curtesy of a Andrej Kramaric hattrick. It went downhill from there however, losing all three of their next games. Eintracht Frankfurt bested them 3-1, then they were thrashed again, this time 1-4 to Bayer Leverkusen and finally in their most recent match they suffered defeat at the hands of a 2-1 win for Union Berlin.
Die Kraichgauer currently have seven players that will be sidelined for this game due to injury alone. David Jurasek, Dennis Geiger, Finn Becker, Florian Grillitsch, Grischa Prömel, Ihlas Bebou and Ozan Kabak are all out injured. These injuries have cost them the quality players they need to remain inside the mid table where they have predominantly finished over the years and now making it to the later stages of the UEFA Europa League.
There is a clear difference between the form of these two sides. FC Midtjylland have been excellent at home this season given the fact they are unbeaten there. However, with Hoffenheim coming from one of Europe’s leagues, there is always a chance they can turn it up whenever they feel had they not had the number of injuries they do.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with FC Midtjylland Double Chance as our best value tip for this game.
Odds of 1/2 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £15 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
FC Midtjylland 1-1 TSG 1899 Hoffenheim
This match could go either way but the if Hoffenheim had a full strength squad available to them then it would be a different question. Seeing as they don’t, we can see Midtjylland taking advantage of that and grabbing either a draw or all three points.
