The UEFA Champions League is back and for the first time games are set to be played on Thursday nights. One of those Thursday night fixtures sees Dutch side Feyenoord host German outfit Bayer Leverkusen.
Believe it or not this match is set to be the first time these two sides have faced one another.
In fact, Bayer Leverkusen have never faced a team from the Netherlands prior to this match.
Feyenoord on the other hand have a rich history against German sides dating back as far as 1973/74. In that time they have played 15 games against German opposition winning 6 times, drawing 5 times and losing just 3 times. Can they add another win to that record here?
The hosts, Feyenoord, will be without both Calvin Stengs and Hugo Bueno through injury in this game.
Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen side on the other hand aren’t expected to be missing anyone coming into this game so should start their strongest possible lineup.
Feyenoord - Timon Wellenreuther, Jordan Lotomba, Thomas Beelen, David Hancko, Gijs Smal, Quinten Timber, Gjivai Zechiel, Bart Nieuwkoop, Chris-Kevin Nadje, Igor Paixao, Santiago Gimenez
Bayer Leverkusen - Matej Kovar, Edmond Tapsoba, Jonathan Tah, Piero Hincapie, Jeremie Frimpong, Robert Andrich, Granit Xhaka, Alejandro Grimaldo, Martin Terrier, Florian Wirtz, Victor Boniface
Bayer Leverkusen have such a strong side but it is German international Florian Wirtz that we would look out for here.
Wirtz has started this season how he ended the last campaign. He already has 3 goals and 1 assist in 3 Bundesliga games this season. This as well as picking up a goal and an assist during the international break for Germany.
He is a special player and is sure to have an impact in this game.
This is sure to be a close game but it is Leverkusen who come into this game looking the better of the two sides.
Alonso’s record as manager of Leverkusen speaks for itself and we would expect them to kickstart their UEFA Champions League campaign with a strong win.
Our team of professional tipping experts have selected Bayer Leverkusen To Win as our best value tip in this game. With odds of 4/5, £10 has the potential to return up to £18.
This game gets underway at 17:45 pm UK time on Thursday 19th September 2024. And you can check out all of the action live on TNT Sports 2.
