This Thursday’s UEFA Europa Conference League action sees Panathinaikos make the trip to face Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. This is a big match for the home side as if they don’t win they could be eliminated from the competition.
Over Fiorentina’s last five games they have won once and lost four times, heading into this match in abysmal form. Panathinaikos on the other hand have achieved three wins, one loss and a draw. They come into this match having not lost in three matches with one of those results being the victory over Fiorentina in the first leg. This Thursday’s match has big implications with Panathinaikos winning the reverse fixture, leaving a lot to be desired for Fiorentina.
Formation: 3-5-2
Fiorentina Predicted Line-Up: David De Gea; Luca Raineri, Pablo Marí, Pietro Comuzzo; Robin Gosens, Nicolò Fagioli, Danilo Cataldi, Cher Ndour, Dodô; Moises Kean, Lucas Beltrán
Unlike their opponents, Fiorentina automatic qualified for the Round of 16 after placing third in the league phase with four wins, one loss and one draw. Those results left them with 13 points, sharing that tally with three other teams but goal difference the reason as to why they finished behind only Chelsea and Vitória Guimarães SC to give them a lower seed this round. Fiorentina have historically done well in this competition with them reaching the Final in the 2022/23 season versus West Ham United and again in the 2023/24 season against Olympiacos.
None of that mattered however as they were handed a defeat at the hands of Panathinaikos in the first leg last week. Grabbing goals in that match for La Viola were Lucas Beltrán and Nicolò Fagioli. Something that the home support can look forward to in their chances of making it through to the Quarter Finals is that striker Moises Kean has returned from the head injury that saw him sidelined for a while. The 24-year-old has netted 13 goals in the Serie A, leaving second in the Golden Boot race and he could be the difference maker for the Italian out, potentially ensuring his side make it into the next round this Thursday.
Formation: 4-3-3
Panathinaikos Predicted Line-Up: Bartlomiej Dragowski; Philipp Max, Sverrir Ingi Ingason, Nemanja Maksimovic, Georgios Vagiannidis; Manolis Siopis, Azzedine Ounahi, Adam Gnezda Cerin; Filip Djuricic, Fotis Ioannidis, Tetê
Panathinaikos couldn’t make the most out of the league phase of this year’s edition of the UEFA Europa Conference League, finishing in 13th place after six games. They recorded three wins, one loss and two draws which left them with 10 points. That was enough to make it into the preliminary knockout stage where despite losing 2-1 the first leg against Víkingur Reykjavík, Panathinaikos came back to win 2-0 in the second, leaving it as late as a 95th minute goal to ensure the match would not reach extra time and potentially penalties. Domestically they sit third in the Greek Super League standings and have made it into championship playoff rounds.
Goals haven’t been the main focus for Trifýlli but defence instead. They have kept four clean sheets from their last five UEFA Europa Conference League initial phase matches, going on to win all four of them. Their attack is still very good however, putting three past Fiorentina in the first leg. Wingers Filip Djuricic and Tetê both hand standout out performances last week, with Djuricic providing tow assists and Tetê finding the back of the net. The pair of them should be the difference makers again this Thursday, trying to seal the deal of moving onto the Quarter Finals this Thursday.
These clubs have faced off against each other only once before and that was in the reverse fixture last week. Just like then, this will be a tough game to predict given how close that match was and Fiorentina’s success in this competition despite being down on the cards.

6th March 2025 – Panathinaikos 3-2 Fiorentina – UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16
With Panathinaikos up in the aggregate score, they will want to avoid conceding at all costs, leaving for a stalemate in the opening 45 minutes. Fiorentina will be giving it all they’ve got for the whole match so Pana will have to try and hold out.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with a First Half Draw as our best value tip for this game.
Odds of 6/5 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £22.20 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Fiorentina 1-2 Panathinaikos
The reverse fixture was a lot tougher and closer than people might have expected. It could happen again with the home side on the back foot after losing in the first leg, going all out from the get-go.
