Play-off chasing Bradford City will want to carry the momentum they gained from their FA Cup first round win of Aldershot Town into the league fixture against 15th placed Fleetwood Town.
Fleetwood themselves were comprehensively eliminated from the cup by Reading, continuing a run that has now reached five games without a win in all competitions, and will face a tough test to end that streak this weekend.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
Fleetwood Town Predicted Lineup (3-1-4-2): David Harrington (GK); Kayden Hughes, Finley Potter, Elliot Bonds; Matthew Virtue; Phoenix Patterson, Danny Mayor, Mackenzie Hunt, Carl Johnstone; Ryan Graydon, Ronan Conlan.
After starting the season in excellent fashion, Fleetwood have tumbled down the table in the last month or so.
Since their aforementioned 6-2 win over Cheltenham, Fleetwood have collapsed, with their only win since coming in the EFL Trophy against National League side Barrow. Since then, draws to Bromley, Newport County and Salford City have been their only league points, and defeats to Port Vale and Crewe Alexandra have done nothing to raise morale.
This is even more concerning considering that as one of the sides demoted to League Two last season, Fleetwood were tipped to bounce back and go straight back up. Instead, they have fallen far below expectations early in the season, and they will need to turn things around sharpish if they are to have a chance at promotion come the end of the season.
Bradford City Predicted Lineup (3-5-2): Sam Walker (GK); Jack Shephard, Neill Byrne, Cheick Diabate; Tyreik Samuel Wright, Bobby Pointon, Richard Smallwood, Jamie Walker, Jay Benn; Tyler Smith, Andy Cook.
Bradford have generally been impressive so far this season, although their results indicate an element of inconsistency. They have only strung three victories together once, but more importantly, have ensured that defeats remained isolated, with positive results coming in the follow-up game more often than not.
As a result, they sit in seventh place in the last play-off spot, and while the season is still early, a win here would go a long way to securing their position in the promotion places.
The form of striker Andy Cook has been a huge boost for Bradford, as his eight league goals top the goal scoring standings, and he will be crucial in this fixture if the Bantam’s are to follow through in pre-match expectations.
Recent Meetings:
Taking into account everything discussed above, it is hard to look past a simple win for Bradford, which is the result that we are backing.
Fleetwood simply don’t have enough confidence to take the game to bradford, and should they stick with their unusual 3-1-4-2 formation, as they have done in their recent run, then Bradford shouldn’t face any issues cutting them open.
Fleetwood Town 0-2 Bradford City
Bradford haven’t conceded more than a single goal in a game since September, and with Fleetwood’s struggles in front of goal, that trend looks set to continue here.
Bradford could move up to fifth here if other results go their way, and with fifth placed Crewe set to take on second placed Walsall, they will move up at least one spot should our tip for that one come through.
