This weekend starts early in England, as the first matches of the third round of the FA Cup start on Thursday. One of these matches is Fulham’s home game against Watford. It is one of a few Premier League vs Championship ties at this stage of the cup this season.
Fulham’s long unbeaten run has mainly been draws, but they have managed wins over Chelsea and Brighton. Last time out they rescued the game with a last minute Raul Jimenez penalty to equalise against Ipswich Town.
Watford’s recent poor run of form has seen them slip out of the playoff places and into ninth in the Championship. One good part of their game is their attack however, as they have only failed to score in four of their 25 matches so far this season.
Fulham Predicted Lineup - Bernd Leno; Antonee Robinson, Calvin Bassey, Joachim Andersen, Timothy Castagne; Sasa Lukic, Tom Cairney; Alex Iwobi, Emile Smith-Rowe, Harry Wilson; Rodrigo Muniz
Marco Silva might make a few changes to his Fulham side that drew with Ipswich at the weekend, but Watford are a good side, so it is unlikely that we will see a whole overhaul of the starting XI.
Raul Jimenez scored twice from the spot at the weekend taking his tally for the season up to eight, but he is one player that might miss the FA Cup tie due to the depth in attack that they have. Harry Wilson has scored quite a few important goals this season, despite not having many minutes to his name, so this match could give him the chance to show his worth from the off.
Watford Predicted Lineup - Daniel Bachmann; Jeremy Ngakia, Francisco Sierralta, Angelo Ogbonna, Mattie Pollock, Ryan Andrews; Imran Louza, Giorgi Chakvetadze, Edo Kayembe; Rocco Vata, Kwadwo Baah
Like Fulham, Watford will not make many changes to their starting XI, however they might make a couple to rest some players up, especially if manager Tom Cleverley wants to focus on the league and leave the FA Cup alone.
Vakoun Bayo is the club’s top scorer this season with nine goals, however he has been limited to minutes off the bench for a lot of this season. Like Harry Wilson for Fulham, this could be the match where he gets his chance and makes a claim on a spot in the starting XI, however there is little more he can do.
Despite both sides being in and around the Premier League and the Championship over the last 10 or so years, they have done a very good job of avoiding each other. In fact, the two sides have been in the same league in just two seasons since 2014/15.
2nd Apr 2019 - Watford 4-1 Fulham - Premier League
22nd Sep 2018 - Fulham 1-1 Watford - Premier League
3rd Mar 2015 - Watford 1-0 Fulham - Championship
5th Dec 2014 - Fulham 0-5 Watford - Championship
Fulham are obviously the better team, so this result most likely depends on the team that Marco Silva puts out on Thursday. Watford are decent in front of goal and will likely score, but Fulham will ultimately have too much for them and progress into the next round.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Fulham to Win + BTTS. Odds of 15/8 on Betfred means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £28.75.
