Barcelona will look to close the gap to top of the table Atletico Madrid on Saturday when they face 15th placed Getafe, and will be aiming for their fourth win on the bounce in all competitions.
Despite at one point being nine points clear at the top of the league, a dismal run of form throughout November and December saw rivals Real Madrid and Atletico catch up to and overtake Barcelona, who will now be hungry to return the favour.
Getafe have had an improved spell lately, but have struggled for goals throughout the season, with their 13 scored the lowest total in La Liga.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
Getafe Predicted Lineup (4-4-2): David Soria (GK); Juan Iglesias, Omar Alderete, Domingos Duarte, Djene; Coba Da Costa, Mauro Arambarri, Luis Milla, Carles Alena; Borja Mayoral, Chrisantus Uche.
Late drama last time out saw Getafe scrape through as 2-1 winners over a dogged Las Palmas side, and helped them to their third league win in six games, compared to just one in their previous 12.
While they have certainly improved in recent weeks, they are yet to truly push a big side all the way this season, and certainly have not picked up any points against the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico or Barcelona.
The Catalan club may prove too much for Getafe, but conceding just three goals in their last six games, they certainly have the ability to make things very tricky for Hansi Flick’s side. If they can restrict them in the first half, the second period could be intriguing.
Barcelona Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Wojciech Szczesny (GK); Alex Balde, Ronald Araujo, Pau Cubarsi, Jules Kounde; Pedri, Marc Casado; Raphinha, Gavi, Lamine Yamal; Robert Lewandowski.
After a nasty winter slump caught the club by surprise, Barcelona seem to slowly be returning to their mesmeric best. A 5-2 win over El Clásico rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final despite a red card was an indicator that they are not to be written out of the title race just yet.
That result came after two morale boosting wins over Barbastro (In the Spanish Cup), and a 2-0 win over Athletic Club in the semi-finals of the Super Cup. Finally back in action in the league, Barcelona will be looking for their first win since December 3rd.
With much of their first team available, including a now injury-free Lamine Yamal, Barcelona have all the talent and squad depth they could possibly need to mount a serious title challenge. If they can just improve their consistency, then they will be right back in the conversation.
Recent Meetings:
While Getafe have been effective at limiting Barcelona to few or no goals in recent years, Barca’s current attacking lineup is one of their most effective since the departure of Lionel Messi.
We reckon the side will be level at half time, but the away side will turn on the after-burners in the second period, cruising to three points.
Getafe 0-2 Barcelona
Getafe will sit back and let Barcelona play around them, and will for the most part keep them at arm's length. However, Barcelona will be more direct in the second half and will be rewarded.
