There is more UEFA Women’s Champions League action this week, as Manchester City travel to Sweden to face Hammarby.
Hammarby, having won the Damallsvenskan last season, fell short this year, finishing in third, 14 points behind first placed Rosengard. Their last league match took place at the beginning of the month, in which they drew 0-0.
Manchester City’s season has only just begun, and it has almost been a perfect start, except for their first defeat of the season at the weekend against Chelsea. That result saw City fall to second in the table behind the London based club.
Hammarby Women Predicted Lineup - Anna Tamminen; Jonna Andersson, Eva Nystrom, Alice Carlsson, Stina Lennartsson; Emilie Joramo, Asato Miyagawa; Julie Blakstad, Vilde Hasund, Ellen Wangerheim; Cathinka Tandberg
If you ignore their Champions League results, Hammarby have been good lately, as they even condemned Rosengard to their only league defeat of the season when they played last month.
Cathinka Tandberg scored a hattrick in that 3-2 win, and she'll provide a focal point to Hammarby’s attack against Manchester City. They have quite a few talented players in forward areas, but most of the play will revolve around the Norwegian striker.
Manchester City Predicted Lineup - Ayaka Yamashita; Leila Ouahabi, Alex Greenwood, Alanna Kennedy, Kerstin Casparij; Laura Blindkilde Brown, Yui Hasegawa, Jess Park; Aoba Fujino, Khadija “Bunny” Shaw, Mary Fowler
Until Manchester City had faced Chelsea, they were in fine form in both the Women’s Super League and the Women’s Champions League. Some of their games have been more convincing than others, but generally, they have had a really strong start to the season.
Bunny Shaw is the all time top goalscorer for the women’s team, and she will be looking to increase on her current tally of 82 goals in 95 games. She already has three goals in Europe and seven in the WSL this season.
The only other time these two sides have met was in the reverse fixture this season, in which Manchester City won 2-0 thanks to goals from Laura Blindkilde Brown and Aoba Fujino.
12th Nov 2024 - Manchester City 2-0 Hammarby - UEFA Women’s Champions League
While Hammarby have the home advantage, I don’t think that counts for too much when the side facing you has the talent that Manchester City does. City will want a strong comeback after losing to Chelsea in their last game, and what better place to do it than in the Champions League.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Manchester City to Win to Nil. Odds of 23/20 on Betfred means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £21.50.
(odds subject to change)
