After an enticing Saturday of SPFL action, we’re taking a quick look at Sunday’s action in Scotland’s top flight.
David Gray’s Hibernian side host Neil Critchley’s Heart of Midlothian.
Both sides have had seriously disappointing starts to the season, especially by Hearts standards.
They had a great campaign last year, qualifying for the UEFA Europa Conference League, but have not had a promising start to this season. Perhaps the new demands of European football are impacting their domestic performance.
Hibernian Predicted Line-up - Josef Bursik; Lewis Miller, Marvin Ekpiteta, Warren O'Hora, Jordan Obita; Hyeok-kyu Kwon, Nectarios Triantis; Christopher Cadden, Josh Campbell, Junior Hoilett; Dwight Gayle
Hibernian have had a torrid time so far in the SPFL, only really impressing in their win over St. Johnstone.
Forward Kieron Bowie is injured until January at the earliest, so he certainly won’t be present in their lineup.
Former Cardiff and QPR forward Junior Hoilett will be looking to add another goal to his tally.
Heart of Midlothian Predicted Line-up - Craig Gordon; Adam Forrester, Frankie Kent, Kye Rowles, Stephen Kingsley; Kenneth Vargas, Malachi Boateng, Cameron Devlin, Alan Forrest; Lawrence Shankland, Blair Spittal
It’s safe to say Hearts have disappointed this year, given how well they did last campaign.
They did midweek as they took on Omonia in the UECL, and the weekend prior against St Mirren in the SPFL. That being said, because we think they’ll stick with an unchanged lineup, the fatigue may come to haunt them.
Frankie Kent has offered a goal threat from set pieces, which we’d expect Hearts to be banking on.
These two sides have faced each other a whopping 79 times since 2003. Hibernian have won 19 of these meetings, and Heart of Midlothian have won 34 games.
26 matches have resulted in a draw.
28th February 2024 - Hearts 1-1 Hibernian - SPFL
27th December 2023 - Hibernian 0-1 Hearts - SPFL
7th October 2023 - Hearts 2-2 Hibernian - SPFL
27th May 2023 - Hearts 1-1 Hibernian - SPFL
15th April 2023 - Hibernian 1-0 Hearts - SPFL
Hibs and Hearts have both been poor this season, meaning this is not an easy call at all.
When we take into account Hearts’ fatigue from the Europa Conference League, along with Hibs’ home advantage, we believe that Hibs will take home all three points here.
Overall we think the best bet to place for this game would be Hibernian to win, backed up by our research.
Odds of 13/10 on QuinnBet mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £23 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Hibernian 1-0 Heart of Midlothian
Hibs will get their second win of the season, giving them some breathing room from bottom spot.
Just a few hours later, in the EFL Championship, Norwich take on Middlesbrough.
