Championship leaders Sunderland will travel to Hull City in a bid to maintain their status as the second divisions’ top ranked club, as Hull look to make headway up the table.
After an electric start to the season, Sunderland have cooled in recent weeks, suffering a shock defeat to Plymouth, before falling again to Watford in their next away game. Hull have experienced a positive upturn in form, winning three of their last four league games after failing to win in their first five.
As the game edges closer, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
Hull City Team Preview (4-3-3): Ivor Pandur (GK); Cody Drameh, Sean McLoughlin, Alfie Jones, Lewie Coyle; Marvin Mehlen, Oscar Zambrano, Regan Slater; Liam Millar, Chris Bedia, Mohamed Belloumi.
After a sluggish start to the 2024/25 season, Hull are starting to come good on their label of promotion contenders. Following a poor opening run that included draws to Plymouth and Millwall, and losses to Leeds and Sheffield United, Hull have bounced back brilliantly.
Beating Stoke, Cardiff and QPR in succession, they propelled themselves up to ninth in the table, before being brought back down to earth with a crash courtesy of a 4-0 defeat to Norwich.
However, their improved form will put Sunderland on notice, and with home advantage, Hull could seriously push the Tyneside team.
Sunderland Predicted Lineup (4-3-3): Anthony Patterson (GK), Dennis Cirkin, Luke O’Nien, Chris Mepham, Trai Hume; Jobe Bellingham, Daniel Neil, Chris Rigg; Romaine Mundle, Wilson Isidor, Patrick Roberts.
While Sunderland’s recent form has been patchy, they can at least in part blame this on recent injuries. Missing seven players, including Ian Poveda, Eliezer Mayenda and Ajiboa Alese, Sunderlands squad is greatly reduced, and they have done well to pick up wins against Derby and Middlesbrough in recent weeks.
However, defeats to Plymouth and Watford, as well as a draw to Leeds have seen them drop points and allow Sheffield United to draw level on points at the top of the table.
To guarantee that they stay top at least for another week, Sunderland really need a win here, and despite facing an in-form home side, should have enough to get over the line.

With both sides in contrasting form, this could be a close one, and Hull in particular will see the game as a real opportunity to re-enter the promotion race.
However, for me Sunderland just edge this one, their midfield quality just too much for Hull to deal with. Keep an eye out for young Chris Rigg - the 17-year old has made quite the impression in the Championship, bagging two goals already.
Hull City 0-2 Sunderland
It will be a close game, and Hull will certainly not let Sunderland have it all their own way. However, with a couple of players returning from injury, they should at least be able to provide some variety off the bench, which will be what hurts their opponents.
