Wales travel to Iceland on Friday 11th October 2024 as they look to continue what has been a very good start to their UEFA Nations League campaign.
Wales have got their Nations League campaign off to a very good start setting themselves up well in this game. Iceland haven’t had an awful start themselves though and could still very much top this group if things go their way. This game could be a very even contest.
Iceland Predicted Lineup - Hákon Valdimarsson; Kolbeinn Finnsson, Daníel Leó Grétarsson, Hjörtur Hermannsson, Victor Pálsson; Jón Dagur Þorsteinsson, Stefán Teitur Þórðarson, Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson, Mikael Anderson; Orri Óskarsson, Gylfi Sigurðsson
Iceland have started their UEFA Nations League campaign off with one win and one loss placing them third in the group at the moment. A win though could take them to the top though.
An impressive 2-0 victory over Montenegro despite a disappointing loss in their last game against Turkey will put them in good stead and make them hopeful of victory again here.
Iceland certainly have the ability to beat the big teams having beat England 1-0 in June.
Wales Predicted Lineup - Danny Ward; Connor Roberts, Joe Rodon, Ben Davies, Neco Williams; Harry Wilson, Ethan Ampadu, Jordan James; Brennan Johnson, Aaron Ramsey, Sorba Thomas
Wales on the other hand are currently second in the group with four points from their opening matches. A draw against Turkey and a win against Montenegro will give them hope of another win here.
Significantly, Wales have looked amazing defensively at times proving a tough side to break down. They have three clean sheets in their last five games for example often not conceding more than one. If they can maintain that here they could do the same again.
They will be looking towards Tottenham star man Brennan Johnson going forward in this match. Johnson has six goals in ten games for Spurs at the moment and is on a terrific run of scoring in every game he plays. Will he get on the scoresheet here?
This is set to be the tenth match between Iceland and Wales to date.
Wales have an advantage having won five of those games while Iceland have only won one. There have also been three draws in those matches.
In fact, Wales are on a streak of four games unbeaten against Iceland dating back to 1984. Can they continue that run here?
5th March 2014 - Wales 3-1 Iceland - International Friendly
28th May 2008 - Iceland 0-1 Wales - International Friendly
1st May 1991 - Wales 1-0 Iceland - International Friendly
14th November 1984 - Wales 2-1 Iceland - FIFA World Cup Qualifying
12th September 1984 - Iceland 1-0 Wales - FIFA World Cup Qualifying
These teams are very evenly matched. Not much separates them. We would expect this to be a very even contest between two teams on good form.
Don’t expect many goals though with Wales’ good defensive ability often resulting in a lack of goals in their matches.
Our team of professional experts are backing A Draw and Under 2.5 Match Goals in this game. With odds of 13/5, £10 has the potential to return up to £36.
(Odds subject to change)
Iceland 0-0 Wales
This will be a very even game between two closely matched teams. Expect a tough battle between them and not many goals. This will end in a draw.
