The Milan Derby, also known as the Derby della Madonnina, is the biggest football match in Italy. League meetings between these two sides are always hosted at the San Siro, as the clubs both play their home fixtures there. It will on Sunday, once again host the biggest football match in the country.
- Inter Milan are unbeaten in the first 4 league games this season.
- Both Inter Milan and AC Milan have scored 9 league goals this season, more than any other Serie A club and joint with Napoli.
- 8 different players have found the net for AC Milan in their opening four games.
- AC Milan have won just once this season.
Inter Milan definitely come into this game with the better form of the two sides, having managed to hold off Erling Haaland in midweek, and keeping their unbeaten start to the season intact.
Recent form doesn’t mean much however when it comes to the Milan Derby, so we'll just have to wait and see whether or not AC Milan can dent Inter’s title ambitions.
Predicted Lineup: Y. Sommer, B. Pavard, S. de Vrij, C. Augusto, D. Dumfries, D. Frattesi, N. Barella, P. Zielinski, F. Dimarco, M. Thuram, L. Martinez
Inter haven’t been as impressive as they would have liked to have been so far this season, however they have managed to remain unbeaten. Last time out, it took a last minute equaliser from Denzel Dumfries to earn a point against Monza.
Their defence has been pretty solid, as proven by their clean sheet against Manchester City in midweek, having only conceded three times this season. In both of their league wins, they have managed a clean sheet. Both of their wins have also come at home, which is where they’ll be this weekend too.
The player that has impressed us the most for Inter has been Marcus Thuram. The Frenchman has four goals and two assists in just four league matches this season. No one else for Inter has more than one goal.
Predicted Lineup: M. Maignan, Emerson, M. Gabbia, S. Pavlovic, T. Hernandez, T. Reijnders, Y. Fofana, R. Loftus-Cheek, C. Pulisic, T. Abraham, R. Leao
To say that AC Milan have been wasteful this season would be a massive understatement. They have consistently been the better side, but haven’t been able to keep out their opponents. The only expectation was their 4-0 battering of Venezia last week.
They have conceded six goals this campaign, twice as many as Inter, so it is highly unlikely that they will manage to keep a clean sheet when they play their local rivals this weekend.
Christian Pulisic has impressed us in the opening few games for AC Milan. He has managed two goals and two assists in the league so far this season and another goal in their Champions League defeat to Liverpool in midweek.
Throughout history, Inter Milan have won more times than AC Milan have managed. The sides have faced each other 223 times, with Inter winning 85, AC Milan winning 71 and there being 67 draws.
Over the last six meetings, Inter have won them all with an aggregate score of 14-2. These matches included a Supercoppa Italia final and two legs of a Champions League semi-final. In all three of those matches, Inter managed to keep a clean sheet.
22nd April 2024 - AC Milan 1-2 Inter Milan - Serie A
16th September 2023 - Inter Milan 5-1 AC Milan - Serie A
16th May 2023 - Inter Milan 1-0 AC Milan - Champions League
10th May 2023 - AC Milan 0-2 Inter Milan - Champions League
5th February 2023 - Inter Milan 1-0 AC Milan - Serie A
Given their recent form, and the players that they have at their disposal, Inter Milan should be winning this game. AC Milan’s defensive record is bad, and Inter have the quality to capitalise on that.
Inter are especially good at home, having won both of their matches at the San Siro so far this season.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Inter Milan to win. Odds of 7/10 on QuinnBet means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £17.
(odds subject to change)
Inter Milan 3-1 AC Milan
Both sides score goals, but just one manages to keep goals out. Inter have the better team all round and while AC Milan could pose a threat on the counter attack, Inter will be too clinical for them.
