Newcastle also won last weekend to stop their slide down the table. They beat Leicester City 4-0 having lost two and drawn two in their previous four games. Newcastle also played in midweek in the EFL Cup. They won that game too, beating Brentford 3-1 at home.

Joelinton was hospitalised after a clash with a Brentford player in that match, but he was going to miss this weekend’s game anyway, having picked up a fifth yellow card against Leicester.

Alexander Isak is in fine form once again this season, which has seen him linked with a move away from the North East, however he has made no indication that he wants to leave, and given how much Newcastle signed him for, it would take a hefty fee to get them to part ways.
