This Friday’s massive Italian Super Cup clash sees AC Milan make the trip to face Juventus Milan at the Al Awal Park at King Saud University. It is a crucial match for both sides as only one of them can face either Inter Milan or Atalanta in the Supercoppa Italiana Final.
Neither side come into this game in any form in this competition give it automatically starts in a Semi Final stage. Domestically in the Serie A however and these sides have produced similar performances, split in the standings by two places five points. Juventus haven’t actually lost in their last 14 games across all competitions, including the like of big matches in the Serie A, Coppa Italia and the UEFA Champions League. AC Milan have not quite equalled that but they have only seen defeat twice from their last 15 games across the board. There is another interesting factor at play this Friday as newly appointed AC Milan manager Sérgio Conceição has the opportunity to face against his son Francisco Conceição, one of the talented wingers who offer their services to Juventus. Only time will tell on which family member will take home bragging rights and earn a space in the Supercoppa Italiana Final.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-Up: Michele Di Gregorio; Weston McKennie, Pierre Kalulu, Federico Gatti, Nicolò Savona; Khéphren Thuram, Manuel Locatelli (c); Kenan Yıldız, Teun Koopmeiners, Francisco Conceição; Dušan Vlahović
Juventus have had a great start to the season, but maybe a bit disappointing by their standards, finding themselves in the last position to play European football next season. After 18 games they sit in sixth place with seven wins and 11 draws, Juve are incredibly yet to see defeat this Serie A campaign. Those matches have left them with 32 points, sharing that tally with Fiorentina but goal difference is the key factor as to why they are not higher up the table. Unfortunately, this isn’t a Serie A match as so Juventus won’t have the opportunity to do any overtaking for now. Stepping up this season for The Old Lady has been striker Dušan Vlahović. He is getting on slowly but surely this season, finding the back of the net seven times and provided an assist so far domestically. Thiago Motta will be appreciative of those efforts and will hope that his form in the league will be able to translate into the Italian Super Cup on Thursday as AC Milan are not easy to beat, despite their slightly poor season.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-Up: Mike Maignan; Theo Hernández, Malick Thiaw, Matteo Gabbia, Davide Calabria (c); Ismaël Bennacer, Youssouf Fofana; Álex Jiménez, Tijani Reijnders, Filippo Terracciano; Álvaro Morata
Like their opponents, AC Milan are having a decent start to the season but it has been a bit poor given their standards, finding themselves outside of the European places. After 17 games they sit in eighth place with seven wins, four losses and six draws. Those matches have left them with 27 points, a single point behind seventh placed side Bologna. In the goals for I Rossoneri been winger Christian Pulisic. The American has been responsible for AC Milan finding the back of the net, through himself or providing an assist, a total of nine times. Fellow winger Rafael Leão has amassed seven goal contributions and attacking midfielder Tijani Reijnders is one behind with six. It will have to be Reijnders that is the difference maker this Friday as unfortunately for AC Milan, the aforementioned wingers are both unavailable through injury. That is a lot to ask of the Dutchman but he has looked good this season, a great performance in the Supercoppa Italiana Semi Final hopefully wont be a task that is too much pressure for him.
The last five faceoffs have been split in the favour of AC Milan, winning all two of the last five competitive matches against Juventus. However, Juventus are in great form as of right now and are defensively solid, keeping an impressive number of clean sheets in the Serie A as well as having not actually lost yet. This Friday should be an entertaining match.
23rd November 2024 – AC Milan 0-0 Juventus – Serie A
27th April 2024 – Juventus 0-0 AC Milan – Serie A
22nd October 2023 – AC Milan 0-1 Juventus – Serie A
28th May 2023 – Juventus 0-1 AC Milan – Serie A
8th October 2022 – AC Milan 2-0 Juventus – Serie A0
Both sides have shown that they have been performing well in the Serie A, especially Juventus and their defence. That back line will make it tough for AC Milan to penetrate it inside the opening 45 mins, potentially for the full 90 as well. Without Pulisic and Leão, Milan will struggle, adding onto the pressure of new manager Sérgio Conceição.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with a First Half Draw as our best value tip for this game.
