This Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League action sees Benfica make the trip to face Juventus at the Allianz Stadium. This is a big match for the away side as a loss could see them slip out of the Round of 16 playoff spots.
Both sides lost in the league last weekend and haven’t been in the best form. Juventus have won one of their previous six games in all competitions since the start of the year. The Old Lady are draw specialists this season with 13 in Serie A. Benfica are better with four wins in their last six but fell shockingly to defeat against Casa Pia last weekend. Both teams have won three of their six UEFA Champions League games.
Juventus are guaranteed a knockout phase playoff tie and cannot be eliminated, a win would see them push up into the seeded spots. Juventus have won three games, drawn three games and lost one game in the UEFA Champions League this season, most notably defeating Manchester City 2-0 last month.
Predicted Line Up (4-3-3): Michele Di Gregorio, Nicolo Savona, Federico Gatti, Pierre Kalulu, Andrea Cambiaso, Kephren Thuram, Manuel Locatelli, Teun Koopmeiners, Kenan Yildiz, Nicolas Gonzalez, Randal Kolo Muani
Juventus have not scored over two goals in a game since mid-December, however, the signing of Randal Kolo Muani is set to boost their goal output, the forward already scored his first goal for the club on his debut last weekend. Turkish winger Yildiz is having his best season to date, the teenager has six goals and five assists in all competitions as of January.
This is more of an important tie for Benfica, who cannot reach the top eight automatic round of 16 spots, currently sat in 21st a loss could see them eliminated from the competition altogether. The Portuguese side have three wins, three losses and a draw including a notable 4-0 win against Atletico Madrid.
Predicted Line Up (4-3-3): Anatoliy Trubin, Alexander Bah, Antonio Silva, Nicolas Otamendi, Alvaro Fernandez, Orkun Kokcu, Fredrik Aursnes, Florentino, Angel Di Maria, Kerem Akturkoglu, Evangelos Pavlidis
Pavlidis’ 28-minute hat trick against Barcelona last week is enough to get him a deserved player to watch mention. The Greek forward became just the fifth player in Champions League history to score a hat-trick and end on the losing side. Pavlidis has 16 goal contributions this season and will want to continue to impress as he faces competition for the starting striker position in the shape of Arthur Cabral.
Juventus have historically struggled against Benfica only beating them once and losing six of their eight previous meetings with Benfica in European competition. Benfica won the most recent two meetings in the 22/23 season, Juventus have not been victorious in this fixture for 20 years. Benfica also notably faced Juventus in the 13/14 Europa League Semi-Finals, knocking out the Italian club to reach the final. Their last five meetings are as follows:
A very unpredictable match-up. Benfica displayed an impressive performance against Barcelona last week and were unlucky to eventually lose. Both teams have quick attacking strategies as well as quality players to create plenty of goalscoring opportunities.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with Both Teams To Score as our best value tip for this game.
