Team Previews, Form and Standout Players

The last time these two sides were playing against each other was all the way back in 2019, five years ago. In that time they have had two promotions each, making this clash a League One fixture, a big difference when the last meeting was in the National League.

Leyton Orient and Wrexham have both got a player each in great form at the moment so either one of them could be the difference in this match. Orient’s Ethan Galbraith has grabbed three goals and an assist in his first games so far whereas Wrexham’s Jack Marriott has amassed four goals in seven. Both have four goal contributions so it is a question of who can be the one to change the game and improve on their individual tallies.

Leyton Orient Preview

Predicted Line-Up: Hemming; James, Beckles, Happe, Currie; Brown, Clare; O'Neill, Galbraith, Agyei; Kelman

Leyton Orient have been in League One for two years now following their League Two title win in the 2022/23 season. They managed to do what a lot of teams struggle with and remain in the league following a promotion finishing 11th nine years on since the last time they were in League One.

They have started this year’s campaign poorly though, currently sitting in 16th place after seven games. Opening day of the league saw Orient lose 1-2 at home against Bolton Wanderers, conceding to a 75th minute winner. That would be the first of four successive defeats domestically, losing 1-0 to Charlton Athletic, 1-2 to Birmingham and 3-0 to Shrewsbury Town, rounding up the four losses. It got better for The O’s as the game after the Shrewsbury loss, they responded with a 0-1 win on the road against Reading. Then an impressive 1-4 performance versus Stockport County before drawing 2-2 with Peterborough United in their most recent game.

Playing wherever the manager needs, Ethan Galbraith has been revolutionary. Normally a right back but has played in various different positions across the last seven matches. Whatever he is doing seems to be working because he is the top scorer for Orient at the moment and he could play a role in this match as well.

Wrexham Preview

Predicted Line-Up: Okonkwo; Barnett, Cleworth, O'Connor, O'Connell, McClean; Cannon, Dobson, Lee; Marriott, Mullin

Wrexham have really transformed ever since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney acquired the club. They ended their 15 streak of playing in the National League, achieved back to back promotions, and could potentially make it three in a row as they currently sit top of the League One standings.

Starting the 2024/25 edition of the League One campaign strong, Wrexham were 3-2 winners against Wycombe Wanderers on opening weekend. The three points unfortunately couldn’t be replicated the next week as they shared a point with Bolton Wanderers in a goalless stalemate. It was back to winning ways the following match though as they went on a three game winning run. They defeated Reading 3-0, Peterborough United 0-2 and then Shrewsbury Town 3-0, making that their fourth clean sheet so far. That streak had to come to an end eventually and so it did with Wrexham losing 3-1 to Birmingham City. The Red Dragons took that loss well as in their next match, which happened to be their most recent and previous game, they were back to picking up all three points, handing out a 2-1 loss to Crawley Town.

Striker Jack Marriott has been one of the best in League One this season, finding the back of the next four times in the seven games he’s played. The strike force of him and Paul Mullin could cause Leyton Orient a lot of problems but it’s not just Wrexham’s strikers that have been bagging goals. Centre back Max Cleworth and central midfielder Elliot Lee have both scored three times this season. All of these players could easily make a difference and change the outcome of the match in Wrexham’s favour.
