Lille host Rennes on Sunday as they look to climb into the top three in Ligue 1. Rennes need a result as their season has started very poorly.
Lille’s recent run has been incredible, with their last defeat in all competitions coming in the opening week of the Champions League back in September. Fans will be looking at this game as one they must win however, as they have drawn all three of their matches in November.
Rennes have been really poor, and a 4-0 loss at Auxerre at the beginning of the month demonstrated the level that they are now playing at. They had scored in every match up until the 19th October, but since then they haven’t managed a single goal.
Lille Predicted Lineup - Lucas Chevalier; Mitchel Bakker, Alexsandro, Bafode Diakite, Aissa Mandi; Ayyoub Bouaddi, Benjamin Andre, Angel Gomes; Matias Fernandez-Pardo, Jonathan David, Edon Zhegrova
Despite having quite a few players that you probably haven’t heard of, Lille are doing excellently well in the league this season, and could move up to third if results go their way. They aren’t doing too badly in the Champions League either, considering that they have played both Juventus and Real Madrid.
Jonathan David is by far the most well known player on the team and he has managed to score seven goals in the league so far this season. There were rumours linking him to a Premier League move in the summer, but it seems as if he is happy in Ligue 1.
Rennes Predicted Lineup - Steve Mandanda; Adrien Truffert, Alidu Seidu, Christopher Wooh, Lorenz Assignon; Glen Kamara, Baptiste Santamaria; Jota, Amine Gouiri, Ludovic Blas; Arnaud Kalimuendo
Rennes’ last three matches have had an aggregate score of 0-7 against Le Havre, Auxerre and Toulouse, all games that Rennes should be winning. They currently sit in 13th on 11 points, just four off the bottom of the table.
Their shining light this season has been Ludovic Blas who has been playing on the right hand side of the attack. Despite Rennes’ record this season, he has managed three goals and two assists, a very respectable output.
Despite both teams having played each other many times in recent history, Rennes have still failed to win a match against Lille since 2019. In fact, in the last 10 years, Rennes have only won on five occasions, and only four times in the league.
Last season, Rennes managed two impressive 2-2 draws, however their form this season does not bode well for this encounter.
10th Mar 2024 - Lille 2-2 Rennes - Ligue 1
16th Sep 2023 - Rennes 2-2 Lille - Ligue 1
4th Feb 2023 - Rennes 1-3 Lille - Ligue 1
6th Nov 2022 - Lille 1-1 Rennes - Ligue 1
21st May 2022 - Lille 2-2 Rennes - Ligue 1
This match is definitely Lille’s to lose. The two sides are in contrasting form and Lille, who haven’t lost since September, have home advantage. The fact that they have a midweek game against Bologna may make Lille play a little bit more cautiously to avoid fatigue or injury, but ultimately they are much the better side.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Lille to Win. This is Evens on QuinnBet which means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £20.
